American Idols Shine Bright At Grammys
Thursday February 9, 2006
If you missed the Grammy Awards last night, you missed Kelly Clarkson winning two awards. The first American Idol winner brought home the awards for best pop vocal album and for best female pop vocal performance. You go, girl! But Kelly drew criticism for not thanking "American Idol" in her acceptance speech. When asked about this after the show, she reportedly said "I did thank the fans and that's American Idol." But should she really have to explain herself? Kelly won "Idol" years ago and even though the show gave her her start, it shouldn't define her career. Kelly wasn't the only Idol to shine bright at the Grammys.
When season three's Fantasia Barrino took the stage for a tribute to Sly and the Family Stone, the R&B diva reminded everyone that she can saaaang (not sing, but saaaang!). Now can someone explain to me why her career isn't as successful as Kelly Clarkson's? And I was suprised to see that judge Randy Jackson was playing guitar during the Sly and the Family Stone tribute. How funny! I had forgotten that he had musical talent.
Did I miss American Idol because I watched the Grammys? Nah! I Tivoed it and watched it later. My favorite singers so far in the Hollywood rounds include Patrick Hall, Paris Benett, Chris Daughtry and Lisa Tucker. And while I'm less than impressed by his talent, I'm rooting for the crying cowboy just because he's such a sweet kid. Kelly Clarkson photo courtesy of RCA Records.
