Is Hell's Kitchen Chef Gordon Ramsay That Scary When The Cameras Are Off?
I can't help but chuckle when I see the previews of the upcoming season of Hell's Kitchen. Chef Gordon Ramsay is back to his scary, intimidating self -- yelling at the chef wannabes and demanding perfection.
On Monday, I asked Ramsay if he is half that tough when the cameras are off.
"To be honest, I'm disciplined. Very tough," he said. "Let's not forget, we have the most amazing restaurant to give away to an individual.... I can't afford to let myself look stupid, because six months after this program has finished, the restaurant has to be successful. If it went to the wrong person and it wasn't successful, then I have to (inaudible) probably.
So yes I am tough when I'm weaving through the talent to find out who's got it, and who's gonna make it, and who's going to make it in this industry. If I had $1000 to give away, then to be honest, there’s no call for that firm toughness. But I treat Hell's Kitchen as if it's my own kitchen. And those standards are paramount and if you don't achieve that, then I am shortchanging my customers.
What you saw, what you witnessed in Hell's Kitchen, it's no different from how I run my own kitchen. When things ride high and standards are met, then I am the best person they will ever get to meet in their career. If things go wrong and customers get upset, then s**t is going to hit the fan."
Hell's Kitchen premieres Monday at 9 pm ET on Fox.

Understanding its his tail on the line is NOT AN EXCUSE for acting like a 10 year old than doesn’t get his way. If I or any of the professionals I work with, acted like this we all would looking for our next job. It may make good tv but his approach and people skills ’suck’.
Demanding perfection (zero defects) is the goal of any business. Methods of how to get there vary. Mr. Ramsey’s managment choice is fear and intimidation. His success adds credence to that method and His maniac meltdowns can be entertaining. His bully tactics seems to have immediate impact. But what are the long term results? Most people I know stick with the bully only because the need to, not not because they want to. In the end, for sake of the show I hope Chef Gordon doesn’t change. It’s his rabid barking that keeps me tuned in and hope the other chefs keep pushing his red-hot buttons. By way, how does Ramsey’s turnover rate compare to the competition? (Not that he would care)
maybe chef Ramsey should stick his wrinkled bitter face in the deep fryer a few more times.
If stakes are that high, you need that man to direct you to the top. Its called BOOTCAMP FOR CHEF’S FROM HELL..
This guy is great.I watch every episode I can and if people cant take what he dishes -then they dont need to be near the man…Keep it up Gordon-your great. He surely helps people to be a good eye on the outside looking in and brings out the great chefs that are needed….
I think Ramsey is terrific. He is itimadating sure but he gets the best or the worst out of people around him.
I wouldnt want to work for a boss with his temper but chefs are well known for being on the crazy side of things. I have seen a few of his Nightmare Kitchen shows and he is more down to earth but still he doesnt BS around.
We’ve just found Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchens. I like what I see and fully agree that these places need his help. I wonder what is edited from the programs. I also like seeing the sensitive side of Chef Ramsay. But…PLEASE STOP THE FOUL LANGUAGE!!! These shows would be so much more pleasant to watch if there wasn’t so much bleeping. Cursing people isn’t necessary to get the point across, it only berates them more. Only individuals who lack self-esteem use that kind of language. I have mountains of respect for people who speak without cursing. I will have much more respect for Chef Ramsay as I know that others will, when he stops with the ***.
chef gordon needs to quit cussing on t.v because my kids are watching it so either he stop it are will be sueing him for real thanks. he needs not to be talking very vulgar language on t.v period .
so you television people need to be talking him okay because he need to respected them as individuals are he need to pay a fine of 5.000 of each curse word for he says. for real is this not a disrespecting humans today .
so either he stop cussing are he need off the t.v for real for sake of kids
I do not agree about the censorship suggested by Duriel. I believe we live in the USA with right of freedom of speech. The government ordered that V-chips be put on all Televisions so the parent’s can censor what their children watch, but I guess for SOME PARENTS it is to hard to figure out how to use the V-chip. These parents would try to turn us into a country like the old cuba or old USSR with no right to speak your mind. This would not even allow you to make these comments that you have posted on this website. I do not think people really think about what our forefathers did for us to get us the protected right of freedom of speech. I would ask your children about all of the foul mouth they hear already and where they hear it. I think most parents will be surprized that your child already in elementary school or before has been exposed to worse language than that parents allow their childen to hear on a TV that are not using the V-chip. Do not blame TV Shows for not doing the parents job of watching what their children are exposed too. The parent should use the V-chip, change the channel, or turn theTV off. Stop blaming everyone else for not doing your parental duties.
I want to speak very highly of this excellent show. The producers of this show should plan for many seasons to come. I think that MOST of the public love how Chef Gorden Ramsey speaks out on the show. It allows everyone to see what real life is about. Not the sugar coated world that some people think they are bringing their children up in today. Those children that are sheltered will end up going bad, because their parents did not prepared them for the real world. I think also when Psycologists started telling people how to raise their children is when society started to crash and burn. We need to go back to allowing parents to punish their children. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Back when I was a child you got your mouth washed out with soap for a foul mouth. A parent could spank their child, but NOT BEAT THEM SEVERELY OR ABUSE THEM. I think some people are taking these child abuse laws to far. It is causing the children to get worse in their behavior.
im not saying im am a chef far from it but if you havesomeone in the kitchen who is organised that can handle the strss along with good fresh food then you are on to a winner i can can do all apart from eat the food.
