Is Mario Lopez Bitter?

Thursday November 16, 2006
Is Mario Lopez bitter about his loss on Dancing With the Stars?

Here's what a People.com reporter, who was present at the finale, observed about Mario and Karina moments after they lost the grand prize to Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke.

From People:

"Runners up Lopez, 33, and partner Karina Smirnoff couldn't hide their disappointment about coming in second place. Tears streamed down Smirnoff's face as she reluctantly talked to reporters and the usually jovial Lopez tried to console her.

'Apparently world-class dancing wasn't enough. That wasn't the criteria it was based on,' a dejected Lopez told PEOPLE. 'I don't really care about the trophy. I just wanted to win for Karina. She is honestly the best dancer in the world. No disrespect to the other girls on this show, but they don't hold a candle to her.'"

Sounds like a guy who is standing up for his woman, right? Well, after all of the buzz surrounding their relationship this season, Mario told late night host Jimmy Kimmel and GMA anchor Diane Sawyer that they do not have a relationship. I just can't figure those two out!

I watched every Tuesday night and can’t believe Emmitt won. Mario was so superior to him that the judges treated Mario badly from the very start or the contest would have been over. I think Emmitt knew he was not as good a dancer but got his fans to vote for him anyways. His victory is very hollow and he must know that from all the comments from disappointed people. I seriously doubt I will watch another Dancing with the Stars as I do not believe Mario was treated fairly or he would have won. I thought it was a dance contest and not a polularity contest. If the audience is too stupid to understand this, they should not be allowed to vote. And they need to get some judges that are fair and don’t fawn over the ones the like.

Yes, this most definitely was a popularity contest. And that’s a shame because Karina and Mario were by far the most skilled dancers of DWTS’s third season.

Quite frankly, rotate the judges and bring in three new ones. The three of these are collectively a hornet’s nest of unobjectivity.

I watched every week too, and right from the beginning is was obvious that Emmett had something extra in the talent/entertainment department. While Mario and Karina were technically excellent, they didn’t have the same chrisma and ability to entertain as Emmett and Cheryl did. Watching Mario dance was sort of like watching a very flexible talented teenager … entertaining, but not captivating. When Emmett danced. you just wanted to get up and dance too…his smile and ability to entertain was infectious and touched a lot of people…and he was damned good too. That’s why he won!
