Mr. Romance Winner Rejected on I Love New York

Tuesday January 9, 2007
VH1's new reality show I Love New York premiered last night. The show was exactly what I expected. Tiffany "New York" Patterson, who was the most outrageous and entertaining contestant on the hit show Flavor of Love, proved that she can carry her own Bachelorette-style show with the help of her overbearing, often-scary mother and the puzzling group of guys who signed up to vie for her affection.

Among the group of nerds, thugs, and everybody in between who are competing on the show, I noticed one guy who looked familiar.

I soon realized that it was Randy Ritchwood, the winner of the Oxygen network reality show Mr. Romance. I interviewed him about that show, which was the search for a Harlequin cover model, back in 2005. At the time, he didn't strike me as the kind of guy who would want to compete on a show that is a cross between the Maury show and a crazy Jerry Springer Show episode. Guess I was wrong.

I suspect that some, if not all, of New York's suitors are on the show for their fifteen minutes of fame. I think Randy was just one of the the guys who was hoping for some camera time. After all, he told me during our interview that he wanted to pursue acting.

But poor Randy's camera time was cut short. New York got rid of him after he admitted he had also appeared on Elimidate and several other TV shows. He went from Mr. Romance to Mr. Reject in one night. Ouch!
