You Go, Girls! -- Ladies Shine On American Idol

Thursday February 22, 2007
It was a great night for American Idol's female contestants -- well, for some of the ladies, that is. The judges had high praise for contestants including Lakisha Jones, whose performance of Jennifer Hudson's "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going" made Randy comment "Watch out, Jennifer Hudson." (I still think Jennifer sings it a lot better. But I guess that's just me.) Here's a bit of what the judges said to each performer -- and I couldn't resist playing fourth judge again.

Stephanie Edwards -- "How Come You Don't Call Me"
Randy : That said it all! Unbelievable.
Paula : What a performer you are.
Simon: By far, your best performance.
Me: The competition has officially begun.

Amy Krebs -- "I Can't Make You Love Me"
Randy: Middle of the road performance.
Paula: Agree with Randy.
Simon: You have the personality of a candle.
Me: Didn't oversing it. Great delivery.

Leslie Hunt -- "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman"
Randy: That song was a little too big for you.
Paula: I think you did a great job. However, watch the songs that you pick.
Simon: It looks like you've gone out of your comfort zone.
Me: Not the right song for you.

Sabrina Sloane -- "Never Loved a Man The Way That I Love You"
Randy: That's the way to put it down. That's the way to sing.
Paula: Standing ovation. Awesome.
Simon: That performance...is the best one so far.
Me: Great song choice. Great performance.

Antonella Barba -- "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"
Randy: It wasn't good.
Paula: It may not have been great but it wasn't bad.
Simon: The good news is you're attractive. The bad news is it didn't work.
Me: You're out of your league in this competition.

Jordin Sparks -- "Gimme One Reason"
Randy: I don't know if there's any song too big for you.
Paula: Great song selection. You do have that natural talent. Go for it.
Simon: You've actually got a very, very good voice.
Me: Brought the house down!

Nicole Tranquilo -- "Stay"
Randy: It wasn't really working for me.
Paula: Out of this world. It may not have been the right song, but you can sing.
Simon: I thought it was indulgent...aggressive...unnatural...fake.
Me: Interesting song choice. Some strange moments but strong performance.

Haley Scarnato -- "It's All Coming Back to Me Now"
Randy: It was just OK for me. Wow me a little bit more.
Paula: I think you did a nice job.
Simon: You sounded 40. Everything about you tonight was old.
Me: I was bored.

Melinda Doolittle -- "Since You've Been Gone"
Randy: Blew it out the box!
Paula: You are a frontrunner.
Simon: An incredible singer...I really hope you do well.
Me: A star is born.

Alaina Alexander: "I'm Special"
Randy: Really wasn't great.
Paula: Didn't put your oomph into it.
Simon. You are going to be reliant on your looks at the moment. Not your voice.
Me: Not special.

Gina Glocksen -- " All By Myself"
Randy: Big girl. Big voice. Big song.
Paula: It was the right song to sing tonight.
Simon: I don't think you hit the right note.
Me: Shaky at times but decent performance.

Lakisha Jones -- "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going"
Randy: I do love you. Jennifer Hudson, watch out.
Paula: You have so much to be proud of. This is where you belong.
Simon: That's the right note. That was in a different league.
Me: Jennifer Hudson sings it better. But great job.
