Donald Trump: The Next Mark Burnett?

Thursday June 21, 2007
Shouldn't Donald Trump be building luxury apartments or something? After getting a taste of reality TV success with his now-fizzled NBC hit The Apprentice, the spotlight-loving real estate mogul is on the road to becoming the next reality TV superproducer! ...Well, maybe Mark Burnett shouldn't scoot over to make room for Trump just yet.

Trump's first show is the charmingly-titled series Lady or a Tramp, which will air on Fox. On Lady or a Tramp, tramps (I'm more comfortable calling them party girls) will be transformed to tea-sipping ladies after getting the charm school treatment. Trashtastic as the show sounds, America already has a reality show that tries to tame a group of wild young women -- VH1's addictive Sunday night series Charm School. Can Fox do it better than VH1?

Trump's second reality show, which will air on MTV, will follow Miss Universe, Miss USA, and and Miss Teen USA as they live together in a New York City apartment owned by Trump. But will this one hold our interest for more than a couple of episodes? We learned from the Tara Connor debacle that pageant queens aren't necessarily boring. However, when the cameras are rolling on the latest title-holders, we may just get fake smiles and conversations about world peace.

Speaking of Tara Connor, the former Miss USA whose drug scandal sparked the infamous Rosie-Donald feud, will be a part of this new show. Tara has signed up to be the ladies' chaperon! The genius who thought of that twist should get a raise.

Trump's new reality shows are expected to premiere later this year.
