Make Me A Supermodel Host Tyson Beckford Says Compared to His Show, America's Next Top Model Is "Kind of Made Up"

Friday January 4, 2008

Move over, America's Next Top Model.  There's another modeling competition in TV town -- Bravo's Make Me A Supermodel.  But even though both shows are reality TV model searches, don't expect Make Me a Supermodel to be a rip-off of Top Model. Supermodel hosts Tyson Beckford and Niki Taylor will tell you the shows are completely different.

"I've been on America's Top Model and I've done some of the judging for them. And it's totally different." Tyson said during a conference call. "It's two different shows because whereas we push the kids into a real work environment. Theirs is kind of made up, you know, so it's more ...they want more drama. We want less drama. We want more on the runway. We want more in the photo shoots."

Niki Taylor said "We want them to work more."

When asked why she wanted to be a part of the show, Niki said "This show was positive. It was nurturing. And, I mean, I think it's different from the other shows because we have guys and girls. And it's kind of got an American Idol kind of twist to it where...America gets to vote who stays in the house. So I just thought it was a neat idea, and Bravo always does such a great job [with] their shows."

Tyson was excited to join the show because male models were invited to compete.  "The idea of bringing men into the house separates us from any other show, which off the bat right there is just great...It also gives guys an opportunity because, you know, it's rougher for us in this business because it is a woman's business and, you know, we're definitely lucky to be even in the same business with women. That's what attracted me to the show. I was like okay, that's cool. I get to represent for the guys."

Make Me A Supermodel premieres Thursday, January 10 on Bravo. See the finalists in this gallery.

I must say I was extremely disappointed with Make Me a Supermodel this week. Asking models to pose naked and having a strong chance of being put up for the vote if they don’t was very distasteful. Tyson and Nikki, you knew there were models that were very uncomfortable with the assignment. You are considered a failure for having values so shame on you. Your body is yours and only yours. You shouldn’t be made to feel like you have to bare it all to survive. I hope your show gets cancelled!
