Did TLC's Reality Show Get Us Excited About Miss America Again?
The last time I cared about watching the Miss America pageant, I think I might have been in elementary school and thought all of the ladies wearing pretty dresses and makeup was cool. I have to say that the pageant hasn't been on my must-see list in my adult years -- and since it was dropped by ABC in 2004 and dropped again by CMT last year, I'm guessing millions of other fans stopped caring about the pageant too.
TLC, the latest network to take on the pageant, hoped to attract more viewers to the show by airing the four-episode reality show Miss America: Reality Check, which featured all 52 contestants living together while trying to learn a new approach to being a beauty queen (Forget the big hair and spare some of makeup, please!) On the reality show, which concluded last night, we got to know some of the girls a bit better by seeing how they handled criticism, how open they were to change, and how they interacted with the other ladies in the pageant.
The reality show led up to tonight's broadcast of The Miss America Pageant (at 8 pm ET/PT). For the first time in the pageant's history, one of the finalists will be selected by viewers who voted at TLC's website.
Who knows? Maybe TLC's modern approach to the pageant will get fans excited about Miss America again!

I thought they were trying to give Miss America a new image by not picking one that looked like a Barbie Doll, then why did the judges pick on that looked exactly like Barbie? And who told her she could sing?
that is because the judges didnt want to change miss america at all, TLC tried to modernize miss america but the hard core judges who are with the organization didn’t like the idea. the judges suck
I was excited until the judges picked a carbon copy of last year’s Miss America!!! Big hair, bright red lipstick & she couldn”t sing!!!
I agree - I was really disappointed in who they chose. From what we saw she wasn’t the best one up there. I guess the judges just fear change!
I was glad to see I wasn’t the only one who had these same thoughts. I’d like to know what the “Reality Check” panelists have to say about the finale.
