I thought it was so sweet when David Archuleta cried when Alexandrea Lushington was eliminated from American Idol last week. And when Alexandrea went over to give him a special hug after her final performance, it was obvious that they had special friendship.
So, how did these teens become such good friends? They met when they competed against each other on Star Search a few years ago. Imagine Alexandrea's surprise when she found out she would be competing against David again on American Idol.
"It was so funny because we were getting picked up from the airport and he was sitting next to us," Alexandrea told me during a conference call on Friday. "My dad said, 'Isn't he that kid that was on Star Search with you? What was his name, David?' I looked over and I said, 'I don't know,' because he looked so different. My father asked him and he was like, 'Do you remember her and she was on there with you? She sang My Funny Valentine.' He said, 'Oh my God!'
It was from then on, we were on the shuttle from the airport and from then on, we've just become really close. We're really good friends and his dad and my dad always talk, because we were always together. Because of us being minors, we were always in school. We ate lunch with each other. We had breakfast with each other. Our dads hang out and talk with each other all the time. We will make jokes about, talking about how our dads were like Laurel and Hardy."
But now that Alexandrea has been separated from her good friend, she has her music career to think about.
"In the future, I'd like to have my own band and hopefully record a solo pop, rock type of album," she told me. "I would like to venture into that nice, live sound and like, real musicianship."
