American Idol Adds a Fourth Judge!

Monday August 25, 2008
Remember the rumors that Paula Abdul would be replaced on American Idol? Turns out the often-confused judge isn't going anywhere. Paula will be back at the judges' table next year with some "back-up!"

Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi will be added as a fourth American Idol judge next season -- a move meant to bring more 'girl power' to the show.

"For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges' table," Fox President Mike Darnell said. "She's been as an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy and Simon, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and No. 1 artist to the thousands who have competed on American Idol. With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more 'girl power' on the show."

In a press release, producer Simon Fuller explains why they gave the job to Kara, who has written songs for artists including American Idol winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood,

"She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters," he said. "We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."

I heard that AMERICAN IDOL producers were worried since ratings were down last season. I think adding a judge is not a good idea. The show needs fewer gimmicks - they need to get back to their first few seasons, not add another judge.

I just hope Simon doesn’t get cut off even more now.
