Celebrity Rehab Helps Top Model's Lisa D'Amato, Real World's Joey Kovar, and Apprentice's Dennis Rodman

Follow me on:

Lisa D'Amato photoFormer Reality TV participants Lisa D'Amato, Joey Kovar, and Dennis Rodman are back on reality TV. But this time, they are starring in a reality show that is way more intense than America's Next Top Model, The Real World, and Celebrity Apprentice. Lisa, Joey, and Dennis are members of the new Celebrity Rehab cast, facing their demons in a substance abuse rehab program run by Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Lisa, who was portrayed as the wild child on the fith season of America's Next Top Model, says she signed up for Celebrity Rehab to find out if she could eventually develop an addiction problem based on her troubled past and her history with alcohol.

See Lisa's Top Model photos here.

Lisa might not have a full-blown problem (according to her), but Joey Kovar of the The Real World: Hollywood is battling far-gone drug and alcohol addictions that Real World viewers witnessed when he had a scary, drug-fueled meltdown during one Real World episode. Joey ended up leaving the show when Real World producers stepped in to send him to rehab. He admits in recent interviews that he went back to his old habits almost right away.

And finally, NBA great Dennis Rodman isn't usually labeled as a reality star, but he has participated in shows such as Celebrity Mole and Celebrity Apprentice. On Celebrity Apprentice, Dennis's drinking was a big part of the reason he got fired. His Apprentice castmates even confronted him about his alcohol abuse on the show.

It's great to see that these three former reality stars are getting the help they need on Celebrity Rehab 3, along with actress Mackenzie Phillips, Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss, actor Tom Sizemore, country singer Mindy McCready, rocker Mike Starr, and Playboy Playmate Kari Ann Peniche.

Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drewpremieres tonight at 10 on VH1.

I saw the opening episode last night. Why did they *bleep* Lisa’s references to her “Mom”? It was very strange.
Right now, watching this show, I’m starting to think Dr. Drew is a bit of a fame whore. These people have real problems, and, although they may be being paid a decent amount of money to appear, it’s kind of exploitation.
It’s really messed-up that these people have accepted this deal. I’m conflicted about it. It makes great T.V. …but this set-up with Heidi Fleiss and Tom Sizemore seems orchestrated for drama. Contrived. Very irritating.
This show should be about healing. But, it’s leaning toward the sensational. Which is very, very sad. Because these are real problems.

Joey Kovar was not on the Real World: Cancun. He was on the Real World: Hollywood. There were Joeys on both of those seasons and both left the house, but the Cancun Joey left because he was hungover and missed work too many times.

Thanks for catching that slip up, Alicia! It’s been corrected.

Chi Chi, I did notice the “Mom” bleeps. Very strange indeed, because we could all figure out what she was saying. I also agree that the show is playing a dangerous game because of the actual problems the celebrities are dealing with.

What was she referencing to her mom as??? im so confused!

sk, when the word “mother” or “mom” was said it was bleeped.. i’m guessing for legal reasons but it’s pretty stupid lol

(6) Manda says:

I thought the ‘mother’ and ‘father’ bleeps were very strange as well…they can say basically anything, except ‘mother’ and ‘father’ Lol.. weird!

(7) Ace says:

Umm, because “Mom” or “Dad” represents a person (the celebrity’s mom or dad), which is the same thing as saying their names. If I was a celebrity named John Smith, then everyone would know that my dad is Joe Smith, who I’m accusing of this abuse or that abuse. This would bring up all kinds of legal issues in which the show could/would get sued. Therefore, the bleep, then no more legal liability issues.

(8) Jen says:

Also notice that they did not do this with Mackenzie Phillips re:her dad, since not only is his misbehavior publicly known, he is dead and cannot sue the show.

I am confused as to Dr. Drew’s reference to the medication “suboxone” that Heidi said she is one.. I take that for opiate addiction, it’s not supposed to be tapered off, it is spose to be taken forever!

(10) Kathy says:

I’d just like the public to know that this is the second time that Lisa is making stuff up about her mother. She will say just about anything for the publicity hoping this will help her “career”! When she got eliminated on ATM she did the same thing to Tyra Banks -trying to trash her ..now she’s trying to trash her mom knowing it will provide good drama and ratings for the show. I think she has an ax to grind with her mother but this should be dealt with in private because this is really a cheap shot doing this on national television and for the record her mom is a very nice person and certainly doesn’t deserve this!

(11) Steven says:

The reason they bleep the words like Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother… is because they can’t confirm what they are saying is really true, and thus it would be defamation of character.
Most of what these people are saying, they are saying to make good tv, and thus boost their speaking engagements they will recieve after the show is over.
Many of the people from last seasons show were getting around $10,000 per speaking engagement or appearance at a club. They do 3-4 of these a month for the next 6 months and they have already made than most of you will make in the few years or so.

Welcome to the world of UNreality TV. I do believe some of the stories on there like Heidi Fleiss and Mike Starr. But the rest of them I think are making stuff up, and so do the producers because they bleep them.

kathy, are you her mother, you sure sound like you are…..trying to defend yourself, how you know what her mama was like…..

(13) Kathy says:

Referring to the comments made by Kathy…I am Lisa’s mom’s close friend for at least the last 20 years now and can’t stand to see her being portrayed this way. The producers, of course, have not bothered to check out Lisa’s story before it aired.
Lisa has cut off all contact with her family on her mother’s side -even her grandmother … they haven’t seen her for years since she went “Hollywood”. They had no idea she would be on TV and have been deeply embarassed by her the way she’s trying to promote herself.

I also know Lisa Damato and her mom. I am a family friend as well as a therapist. What an imposter this girl is! Obviously, she’ll do and say anthing to be on TV. I am absolutely shocked at the things she’s been saying. She comes from a nice middle class family but now chooses to play the victim again and again because it’s padding her bank account. Her mother never abused her as a child..just the opposite because she spoiled her buying her a car, trips, fixing her teeth (as an adult) paying her rent, etc. the list goes on and on.She says her mom is mentally ill..look in the mirror Lisa! Who would put such disgusting videos online? Who is almost 30 yrs. old and still won’t take responsibility for her drug problems? Grow up lisa and quit selling your soul to the devil.Make up with mom you only have one… she will be gone someday. By the way, shame on Dr. Drew for exploiting these people for money. He is the producer of the show. It is highly unlikely that he cares about any of them!

(15) Melissa says:

I just saw Dr. Drew on the Ellen De Generes show and was so disgusted at his talking about the current cast on his show. He talked about Dennis Rodman as if he was some sort of commodity or something.. an object. I don’t like Rodman’s behavior either but that doesn’t give Dr. Drew the right to speak about him so disrespectfully on national TV…he was actually making fun of him! After all, he was HIS patient and referring to HIS other patient, McKenzie Phillips, as a “junkie” seemed so unprofessional for a doctor.
Who would ever want to use him for therapy when nothing you say is confidential and he’s blabbing it to the whole world? Dr. Drew is obviously only in it for the money and publicity. They should both sue him. He is such a jerk!!!

No actual therapist would speak that way….

Confused, she didn’t say what type of therapist ;)

(18) Lori The Liar says:

Lori, you have GOT to be kidding me. There is NO WAY you are a therapist. A therapist would NEVER say the things you said. If you’re going to lie, at least put some effort into it and TRY to sound like the profession you’re falsely claiming as your own. It doesn’t seem like you’re very intelligent either.

i dont think its okay for lisa to be talking about her mom in such a messed up way , im a student of her mother she teaches at my highschool and she is a very nice ladyy who seems harmless , when we ask her about her daughter she rather not speak about her , i dont know exactly happened but that lady has a huge heart, peoplee need to stop believing the media.

(20) Jose says:

It’s quite apparent from actually knowing Lisa in real life that her mother is neglectful and chooses men over her children. Every time there is a gap in her ‘love life,’ or a man isn’t giving her attention, she reaches out to her children. That’s it.
I think we all know families that live in denial, like one side of Lisa’s family does.
