Who Won Hell's Kitchen? Find Out if the Hell's Kitchen Winner is Holli Ugalde or Jay Santos

By August 10, 2010

Follow me on:

Tuesday night's season finale revealed who won Hell's Kitchen season seven.  So, was it Holli Ugalde or Jay Santos?

It turns out that the Hell's Kitchen winner is...Holli Ugalde!  Holli 's big win came after Holli and Jay faced off in the final challenge of preparing five dishes for five executive chefs from the UK.  Jay was the challenge winner after preparing appetizers, a fish course, and a meat entree for the chefs.  And then, it was time for the final dinner service.

As usual, eliminated contestants returned to help the two finalists pull off their final service. Jay selected Benjamin, Jason, and Fran for his team. Holli selected Autumn, Nilka, and Siobhan. Well, Holli actually didn't select Siobhan.  Siobhan just happened to be the only person left standing.

The dinner service was turbulent, to say the least. Siobhan moved too slowly, Fran didn't seem to have a clue at one point, Jason's lamb was undercooked, Nilka had meat issues, Autumn and Nilka butted heads,  etc.  But both Holli and Jay took charge of their dinner services, even though Jay needed some help from Benjamin when it came to showing authority.

In the end, Gordon Ramsay decided that  Holli  would become the new head chef at his Savoy Grill  in London. "Both of you have got very exciting futures in this industry," chef Ramsay said before Holli received the life-changing news.  However,  Jay didn't walk away empty-handed. Both Jay and Holli won trips to Australia.

Are you satisfied with the Hell's Kitchen winner this season? Let me know in the comments!

For several weeks I have thought that Holli would win. She deserves it. Congrats to her. She had my vote.

(3) Mark says:

It’s blatantly obvious that the winner is determined by Chef Ramsay at the beginning of the season. There’s NO way Holli is a better Chef thank Jay. No way. I refuse to believe it. Jay has run Gargoyles on the Square forever now, and has got to be a chef/partner in the company now — therefor making his availability in a restaurant overseas virtually impossible.

If anyone really thinks Holli is a better Chef than Jay, then they must believe Elvis is still alive, too.

(4) Zara says:

Jay is a great chef, but so is holli, why people kept putting her skills down i have no idea.
As for who Ramsay wanted working in his restaurant as head chef, I’m sure the decision has a lot to do with personality and overall energy as well.
Jay is full of himself, he’s already pretty successful, and always had some BS to say about holli (which was not really appropriate and kinda appalling actually)..
as for holli, she really grew a lot on the show and I think she nailed the last challenge, considering she had the worse team, she still handled it with calm, she was collected, didn’t lose it (remember this was her last chance) and remained on top of her game. Generally she showed more tenacity (while Jay had experience) and more willingness to take criticism from Ramsay and learn…
Plus this is about opportunity…i think holli really shined when you think of where she started and ended up. That’s where I think Ramsay’s decision comes from.

As soon as she stepped out the van with her red lips the first day she caught my eye and i thought she would have win! yay!

August 10, 2010 at 9:30 pm
(9) kj says:

All set-up, Jay was the better cook, ran the kitchen better, the only thing he didn’t have going for him was a lil boy that stole the spotlight. Face it, the producers knew she was a single parent and waited towards the end to bring it into play. Seriously, you really think they’re gonna let Holli the single mom not walk through the door and have her son crying his eyes out. To be honest Ramsay should’ve pulled a Diddy move and said ” there will be no winner this season, all of you are donkeys!”

August 10, 2010 at 9:32 pm
(10) Lisa says:

Gargoyles is a horrible restaurant. Evidence that jay should have lost. Gi holli!

(11) Trocoman says:

They didn’t prepare “drinks.”

August 10, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Holli rocked. She could prepare a meal for me anytime. And there wont be any blue hair in it.

August 10, 2010 at 10:01 pm
(13) Enjay says:

I’m so glad Holli won! Jay sabotaged himself by chosing that arrogant jacka**, Ben. The difference between Holli and Jay is that Jay is arrogant and Holli is CONFIDENT!

August 10, 2010 at 10:01 pm
(14) Bob W says:

Jay’s blue hair would have brought more extravagances to the restaurant and something people would talk about.

They both suck!!!!

August 10, 2010 at 10:02 pm

YAY Hollie !!!!

I really think Jay was the better chef, he has controll of the kitchen and is the better cook, Holi will be eaten alive as the head chef.

August 10, 2010 at 10:17 pm
(19) Susan says:

Go Holli.. she was consistent from the beginning..I guess the last dinner service sealed her win (Jay sent out one undercooked dish – which was bought back) Holli had a perfect service.

August 10, 2010 at 10:19 pm
(20) lloyd says:

Holli ha been consistent all the way through this one!

CONGRATS HOLLI!

August 10, 2010 at 10:20 pm
(21) Holli says:

Is it about running a kitchen or what genitalia is between the legs? Since I think both sucked, Holli must have had the upper hand by having a son – between the two of them, she’s CLEARLY has the upper hand in the most things coming out of a crotch (given Jay’s hair, however, he may have the upper hand in the most things going inside a crotch)

August 10, 2010 at 10:26 pm
(22) Lonette says:

jay sucked and was a flirt through the whole show. Congrats to Holli

August 10, 2010 at 10:27 pm
(23) Jackie says:

AWESOME Holli…congratulations and what an exiciting future for you and your son!

August 10, 2010 at 10:59 pm
(24) Thornhill says:

What separated Holli from just about everyone else on the show was that she never had a meltdown. It didn’t take much for Ramsey to get under his skin and for Jay to totally freeze. Jay had a rough time in the middle of the show, but he excelled at the end because Ramsey began to focus on Ben, who was perhaps the best chef, but also couldn’t handle pressure.

August 10, 2010 at 11:10 pm
(25) Alex says:

They are both talented chefs and both have different strengths but during the whole competition people underestimated Holli and concentrated on Ben and Jay and Holli was on the side doing her thing winning challenges and never going up on elimination. I think that it was probably very very close…oh and Elvis is dead.

August 10, 2010 at 11:29 pm
(28) joyce wilson says:

Congratulations to you, Holli. You are awesome and your son is so adorable. A suggestion…get rid of Jay Santos. He totally disrespected you on the finale show when he said that he would rather go to bed with you and later said that he would like to get your pants off. You do not need trash like him. You are a class act. Find yourself a nice London boy like I did. They respect their women. Best of everything to you.

August 10, 2010 at 11:36 pm
(29) John says:

jay should of won! he deserved it, he had the passion for his work and did great the whole season

(30) anthony says:

THIS SHOW IS RIGGED!!! Please tell me how holli won ? Jay won the final challenge vs Holli and he won the final dinner service. Plus if you watched the season you would know that every single one of the contestants believed Jay was the “one” to beat. Even Ben is a better chef than Holli. SO RIGGED!!

(33) Adrian says:

I’ve watched Hell’s Kitchen from Season One and now its so predictable, its not funny. I knew Holli would win because its always man, woman, etc. no matter what and last season it was a guy, so obviously Ramsay is going to pick a…….woman, regardless. And since she’s a single mom and her kid is there, she is going to win. Ramsay hires only 20 something year old’s and 50 / 50 male and female, very predictable. Yes, Jay was the better chef but Holli is younger (24) and a single mom and its a female’s turn to win, very predicable. Imagine if Ramsay actually picked the winner based strictly on skill, not age and not sex……….that would be truly interesting……..like Petrosa should of won but he’s too old…….doesn’t matter if he’s a better chef……..

August 11, 2010 at 12:34 am
(34) Adrian says:

And next year, Season 10 (2011), I will bet everyone right now, Ramsay will pick a man, in his 20′s to win Hell’s kitchen, no matter what………..just wait and see……..very predictable………..

August 11, 2010 at 12:38 am
(35) tatianna says:

She is Awesome… And so obvious that she was going to win! Yay Girls Rule!! :D

August 11, 2010 at 12:39 am

i think that it is good that she won

August 11, 2010 at 12:42 am
(37) Alexandria says:

thank god she won she was the best

August 11, 2010 at 12:58 am
(38) Adrian says:

I definitely think the show is rigged. If next a man wins, in his 20′s and his opponent (a woman) is the slightly better chef, rigged……..predictable. Don’t care about the winner being female, single mom and 24, that’s all irrelevant, skill and wins only…………and yes Holli is a talented chef, no question, but rigged none the less.

(39) Dee says:

Mark, John and the rest of you misogynist cretins, before you think to attempt to leave something resembling a blistering remark, become literate and PRETEND you can write a review! Accurate spelling works here, too. Congrats to Holli!

August 11, 2010 at 1:52 am
(40) Peter says:

Autumn should have won because she is 100 times more hawt then Holli. and I loved it when she talked. They said she talks to much. Holli is fat and Jay is fat nuff said. >:|

August 11, 2010 at 6:05 am
(41) Henry says:

The show is edited a great deal, so we do not see all that happens at service. Moreover, they really didn’t focus on Holli too much at the beginning, so as to make it look like she “developed.” I don’t think she did. But even if she did, that to me isn’t a good reason for her to win. Is she the better chef? If someone doesn’t need much to develop, and are better than one who improves a great deal (this is not Master Chef, after all) they should still get it.

People talking about Jay being arrogant forget all the others were also arrogant, as they all agreed. It is a competition. Don’t let the editing fool you. And more importantly, we are watching Hell’s Kitchen — who is the star of it? Oh yes, someone known for arrogance as well. That isn’t a good reason to disqualify someone from a win.

Seriously, Jay and Ben deserved to win. But I somewhat knew Jay lost when Jay and Ben were doing cooking gigs together. I didn’t hear about Holli doing much — it was because she had to keep low key. But from all I saw, she can’t handle a kitchen. She is too young. Too immature. Not ready at all. Jay knows what he is doing. But, all this said and done, I think Jay will have the better career in the future. I expect Holli will be out of London within a year.

August 11, 2010 at 6:23 am
(42) Henry says:

I would also add Holli was playing Jay throughout the season. Look how close she is to her son’s father; even said she loved him at one point. Yet, in Hells Kitchen, found it fine to go all over Jay. I’m not saying Jay should have done anything, but she is the one who has a son and should be more responsible!

August 11, 2010 at 9:14 am
(43) Frankie says:

Jay and Ben boasted all season that they were the best chefs there. Well maybe they had the experience, but Holli proved over and over again by winning praise and challenges, that she was a force to be reckoned with. All Jay could think about was how hot Holli was…really..Jay needed Ben to help with his service, while Holli had to deal with the less than ideal Siobhan and Nilka. The comments from the diners plays a big part in who wins..and please, let’s not be derogatory about Holli being a single Mom..that had nothing to do with her winning..she evolved into the best Chef there and greatly deserved her win…CONGRATS HOLLI…..

August 11, 2010 at 9:42 am
(44) Gary says:

I think Jay was the better chef. I thought Holly was good, but not as good as Jay.

August 11, 2010 at 9:46 am
(45) GH says:

What is this girl power thing. The best chef is supposed to be picked by Chef Ramsey, it shouldn’t take into account their sex.

“Go man power” oops we lost, maybe next time.

I think Holly won because Chef Ramsey knew that London has outrageous shopping and a special secluded flat for those he finds special.

August 11, 2010 at 11:21 am
(46) TV Pig says:

Of course Jay deserved it, if it was going to be fair. Girl Power-Shmirl Power. You’re just happy she won because she’s a female. And in the end, sadly, that is exactly why she won.
Sad to see that the obvious winner lost because of gender and typical TV audience pandering. Ramsey never gave a compelling reason why Holli won over Jay. Jay won more competitions, rarley screwed up, was far better at the window directing the staff. So why did he lose?
Because Ramsey decided he was going to pick a female this time around, plus she had a heartwarming story with her kid.
I liked Holli. Nothing against her. But add it all up and she really didn’t deserve to win. A Girl Power win, because she’s a girl, is an insult to the women’s movement.
In the end, I don’t feel I watched a real competition. In the future, I don’t know if I should waste my time on a “fixed” match.

August 11, 2010 at 11:51 am
(48) Cool Arrow says:

I thought that Jay was going to win but I am happy for Holly! And of course Chef Ramsey picks the winner, it’s his restaurant, duh!?! He picks the chef that he thinks will best fit/work the head chef position.

August 11, 2010 at 12:07 pm
(49) David Garrett says:

Jay should have won. He was clrearly superior. With that said, I give my congrats to Holly. She will do well. This result is very similar to Chritine v. Petrozza. Petrozza was the winner in that season too, yet Christine was picked. It seems that the winner is not determined solely on ability and competence, but, rather on the ability of the individual to be molded into the Ramsay mold. Id be very interested to hear from GR as to why he picked each winner.

August 11, 2010 at 12:25 pm
(50) Louis-Phil says:

Jay should have won. No debate about that. Rigged.

August 11, 2010 at 3:06 pm
(51) greg says:

Jay was screwed… Girl power?…WTF…what ever happened to the best players play…or maybe that is what happened…Holli “played” Ramsey in private…

August 11, 2010 at 3:08 pm
(52) greg says:

And I like Holli…I thought from mid-season on she was a sleeper but hands down Jay was just a little better in every way when it came to running the kitchen. Ramsey sold his soul for a little tail…

August 11, 2010 at 4:27 pm
(53) Will says:

That was ridiculous. Yet again Ramsey was thinking with the little head. Nothing against Holli, she did a good job and stayed under the radar which always helps. But she only emerged at the very end. Jay was solid virtually the entire time. And let’s face it Jay was clearly better at running a kitchen. And I’m sorry if I owned a restaurant I would not hire someone too lead it that “improved”. Hire her as a Sous Chef for Jay. But remeber a few seasons ago, Gordon picked Christine, a student, because of her potential. Potential don’t pay the bills.

August 11, 2010 at 5:00 pm
(54) patgb says:

Jay was definitely the better Chef. I am a Professional Chef and there is no doubt Jay is far better. I like Holli and I think she will have a big future, but lets be honest, her winning was for pure TV production value.

There has been a lot of talk in Britain lately about Chef Ramseys philandering. Apparently his squeaky clean family image is a mirage. I have to wonder if Christina and Holli’s victories have something to do with that.

There is another possibility: After researching the post show lives of past winners, the positions they are given are very short lived. None lasted more than one year. Its very possible that Chef Ramsey picks winners knowing that the whole experience will only be a learning experience and a boost to a young career. Why give it to someone who already has all the skills to be successful or who already has a great job? Certainly it seems that Christina has really emerged thanks to the boost Chef Ramsey gave her. Petrosa was going to be successful no matter what.

August 11, 2010 at 10:46 pm
(57) Eileen says:

Frankly, I think the talent as a whole was not very good. Holi, in my opinion, is not a chef and will need extensive training to come up to par to just become a cook. Perhaps that is what Chef Ramsey has in mind. I was also taken aback with some of her promiscous behavior as a married woman in her flirtations with Jay.

Of the lot, though, Ben and Jay were the better cooks. I saw the passion in Ben and arrogance in Jay. Jay can cook, but I would not call him a chef. Ben is a cook and has the ability to become a the chef of a 4-star restaurant.

I am glad I did not see the finale, because I probably would have thrown something at the TV and broke it.

August 12, 2010 at 12:31 am
(58) paulie says:

Holli is a WHORE she played Jay and Ramsey. Jay should have got rid of her not Ben but he thought with his lower head thinking he had a chance with her. She is probaly screwing Ramsey a whore like her would do anyone to get what she wants.

August 12, 2010 at 2:29 am
(59) Simon says:

I’ve been an Executive Chef for a number of years, and I never watched food or cooking show because I thought they were ridiculous, but somehow I got sucked into a late night hulu marathon of this show…

Jay was obviously better, if you can’t see that you know nothing about cooking. Alas, this is not a show about cooking, it’s television, and Holli had a much better narrative than the other characters. Autumn also would have had a good story, leaving a PhD program and all, but Holli was heartwarming single mom with a cute kid who “needed” to win.

If you accept it for what it is, entertainment, this was a good ending.

(61) Barb says:

I think if I was going to select someone to run one of my restaurants, I certainly wouldn’t pick someone who not only wanted to sleep with the competition, but actually was crass enough to boast about it on national TV, then telling the world that he would “wipe the floor with her.” All this while knowing that her young son would be hearing it. What a jerk.

August 12, 2010 at 10:00 am
(62) Cindy Douglas says:

Yay for Holli! I enjoyed the entire season but missed the finale when company showed up unexpectedly.

I think both finalists were pretty good, but Holli seemed to show more potential. Glad she won out in the end.

Terrific show. I love Gordon Ramsay. He is one intense man.

August 12, 2010 at 1:47 pm
(63) EB says:

Jay and Holli were the only two who deserved to be in the finals. Autumn’s run had expired way b4 she was cut and Ben was too arrogant for his own good. Congrats to Holli!

August 12, 2010 at 2:03 pm
(64) FidosFriend says:

Wasn’t surprised that Holli won, even though I wanted Jay to win. I knew Ramsey would pick ‘the girl’. She is just too young and immature to be top chef at the Savoy. Sure would like a follow up in a few months to see how she is doing. Seems he never picks the best chef but who has the best presence on TV. Am very disappointed again in this year’s winner. Jay-hold your head up high…you are really the best. What has happened to all of the other past winners. Are they still employed in his kitchens?

August 12, 2010 at 2:59 pm

There’s no way in hell she should’ve won. It was obviously a PC pick. Have fun cooking pea soup and bland food in England.

(66) Mrs T says:

Way to go Holli – CONGRATS! YOU ARE THE BEST & proved how talented you are! BTW, It’s a good thing you can cook, because food in London when I last visited we abominable! We starved except for the one Chineese Restaurant we found & some bagels! lol & the QE2 was horrible – their food was inedilbe & our stateroom filthy – don’t even think of going home that way. PS, your little boy is absoltuely adorable! G-d Bless y’all!

August 12, 2010 at 7:25 pm
(67) Dad says:

Does anyone else feel that Holli has no right to move to London considering she has a kid that will be back in the USA. I guess she doesn’t have custody of the kid so it won’t hurt her to forget.

August 13, 2010 at 12:56 am
(68) Cristina says:

For everyone that’s saying Ben was better than Holli…he was a complete jerk. The entire season. I’d rather Fran won than him. :D

I think Holli and Jay were both great, and I’m glad Holli won, but I would have been happy for Jay to win too. I think they’re both lovely people, and both great chefs. Who knows who’s better?

August 13, 2010 at 1:38 pm
(69) Bonnie says:

I liked Holli and Jay…so either one winning made me happy. I wish Chef Ramsay had kicked the HELL out of Ben’s attitude. HE SUCKED with his cockiness…I just can’t handle people like that. I would like to know how the chefs that win do following the season. Is there anyway to find out?

August 13, 2010 at 9:50 pm
(70) Bastardo says:

Mark:

You’re an ass. Jay chokes every single time he has to prove himself as a superior chef. He has the talent, but when it comes time to execute the end result, he hacks up hair balls. And he’s a little old for blue hair. Someone needs to tell him that, as well and have a talk with him about his, pompous assclown attitude.

(73) gerald says:

Jay choked, plain and simple. I knew Holli won the moment Jay allowed Ben to do his talking for him. Being a head chef is about much more than just being able to cook. Ben can cook his butt off but he could never lead and unfortunately Jay showed in the final that he couldn’t lead without Ben. Had Jay been more authoritive during dinner service, he would have won! Just because he does a great job somewhere else matters little when it comes down to the moment of the final. You blow that, and it’s over. He lost and Holli won hatters!!!!

August 23, 2010 at 3:54 pm
(74) gerald says:

and why are so many hung up on her kid? Ben had a kid too but that obviously didn’t make a difference. They showed a great spot when the families came to visit of him with his family. You all tend to forget that the competition happens and THEN the show gets edited and produced. Of course they showcased her son more because they already knew who won! You all act like this was live each week or something like American Idol. Oy vey!

August 28, 2010 at 9:25 pm
(75) Haily says:

Jay should have been kicked out the moment Ben took over his kitchen. Also “coddling” that big guy was a stupid decision. He only has attitude when he’s talking about scoring with Holli. What an unprofessional loser. He had the best crew by far but he finished split moments before Holli did… his service was not great.
Everyone calling Holli a whore… you’re jealous losers! She played that dick Jay and he fell for it like the overgrown baby he was. I might have felt bad for him if he weren’t constantly talking about how he was gonna score with her… as if. Lady knows he’s not worth it. Jay came across as a pathetic and sexist man-child (god, blue hair? jeans? even after they told him he was underdressed?). Holli was a professional.
Hopefully Ben’s mysogynism on TV makes sure he’s never hired again.

After seeing the results of this show and MasterChef USA, I won’t be watching either again. On both shows it was pretty easy to tell exactly who was going to win reasonably early on, just by the favoritism being shown. I not interested in watching cooking competition shows where the one who has the better “story” ends up the winner.

Rediculous decision! Ramsey only voted Holly cos she was the hottest girl there. Both Jay and Benjamin were far better cooks.

i think that hollie was the perfect person to win hells kitchen,i think that ben was too big for his boots and he obviously wasnt the perfect chef that he boasted about. I was hoping for autumn to win it as everyone seemed to pick on her and kept on voting her out but after she was eliminated my hopes were for hollie WELL DONE HOLLIE YOU DESERVE THE WIN!!!

No way, even though I prefer Holli, Jay has a much more mature authority to become a head chef, a leader. Holli doesn’t have experience as a head chef to e one at a such prestigious hotel-restaurant. She is a great chef, especially at such young age but still lack the skill of leadership… Disappointed she’s the winner. I’m sure in 3-4 more years she would be perfect for a head chef job at a famous hotel-restaurant but not now.

Believe it Mark! Holi won hands down… By the way Elvis “IS STILL ALIVE” isn’t he?

Gordon Ramsey himself will be employing this wonderful “Head Chef” and he suffers No Fools, Takes No Prisoners and His Ruputation is second to none.

If she is good enough for him and his reputation “Mark” than she is good enough for you.

you know what? i’m glad holli won. jay was an excellent cook, unfortunately he carried the side effect of being an extreme prick. very disrepectfu opinion of a girl he was supposed to like to an audience of millions. what a cockring. blue hair? grow up you muppet. also ben was extremely talented, but what a jizzstain. glad he was binned off too. i liked autumn, nobody had her back, she got that far all on her own, and although she clearly wasnt qualified enough to win, she did herself proud and proved a lot of smug tosspots wrong. good for you. well done again holli, and welcome to england!!

Neither should have won! Holi manipulated and used Jay to stop being kicked out and Jay was a loser to believe that she had any interest in him. Niether would have made it to the end if they didn’t stick up for each other and stab the others oin the back. That’s not what I call a good chef if you have to team together and cheat to get to the top.
