Proving, contrary to my previous suggestion, that America was quite happy with its choice of Idols, American Idol voters cast a record-breaking 132.3 million votes for their favorite singer.
The two-night finale featured the release of Jennifer Lopez' new album, numerous musical tributes, the engagement of former Idol contests Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo, and a dozen duets.
But in the end it all came down to whether 132.3 million Americans preferred Phillip Phillips or Jessica Sanchez. (Find out more about the final two here and the finale here)
And the winner is....Phillip Phillips. Congratulation Contratulations.
