Going into the finale, it appeared Laura had the advantage, and she impressed the judges with her finale performances, but she lost the title to Sophie Sumner.
America's Next Top Model British Invasion pitted seven novice Americans with seven experienced contestants from Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model.
Twenty-year-old American Laura and 21-year-old British model Sophie both had strong seasons, but Laura had more wins (including the music video) and first call-outs then her British competitor.
Of course, we all know, everything can change in the finale, especially when there are three different challenges to overcome: a Vogue Italia photo shoot, CoverGirl commercial and final runway show.
Laura impressed judges with superior photos and film from the first two and--although she had previously struggled with her runway walk--conquered the catwalk.
That isn't to say that Sophie didn't also shine. She is clearly a up-and-coming model, and she definitely ruled the runway.
Still, when it came time for the Top Model judges to deliberate, it looked like Laura had two wins to Sophie's one. Even if they decided to give the runway more weight it would only bring the two into a tie.
Except that Laura had to be rushed to the hospital during the CoverGirl shoot for what turned out to be a panic attack.
And during the judges' deliberations, that seemed to be the sticking point. Tyra Banks worried Laura might not have been honest with them, that she might have panic attacks more frequently than they'd been led to believe.
This was the only panic attack Laura had during the competition and viewers were given no indication that Laura had deceived the producers in any way.
Still, the judges seemed to feel that the mere possibility that panic attacks might interfere with Laura's modeling was enough to cut her from the top spot.
Afterall, they viewed Laura's panic attack as evidence she isn't cut out for the high-pressure world of fashion.
Do you think they were right? Or do you think this should have been considered a medical condition--much like issues with blindness and Lupus that impacted previous contestants?
Can we have a Top Model who isn't in perfect health?
Or do you think Sophie should have won all along? Take the poll below.
