To say that new American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj aren't getting along is the understatement of the decade. Minaj reportedly threatened to kill Carey after a spat during Idol Season 12 auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mouth to Ears reported that--after Carey reportedly made numerous comments about Minaj during the audition (while Idol's third new judge, Keith Urban, quietly sat by)--Minaj stormed off of the set but was convinced to return--only to have Carey call Minaj "a bitch and then proceeded to cuss her out. Producers had to stop filming and call it a night."
The fight was caught on a cell phone video and TMZ reportedly got a copy, which they say reveals Minaj screaming, "I told them, I'm not f*#@in' putting up with her f*#@in' highness over there. "
Furthermore, TMZ said Minaj muttered a death threat to Carey--but Idol producers insisted there was no such threat.
However, a new source says the threat did occur. None other than the renown journalist Barbara Walters has lent support to the idea that the threat was real.
Today, on The View, Walters said Carey was truly worried because, "multiple people heard Nicki say, 'If I had a gun I would shoot the bitch.'"
Fearing for her safety, Carey reportedly told Walters that she had hired extra security. Carey also told Walters that Minaj hadn't apologized and had instead indicated they might continue to fight on American Idol.
Minaj replied to the accusations on Twitter, tweeting, "I don't call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave."
Minaj also wrote, "I guess it hurts 2 have the producers tell u to ur face that nicki is the best judge we've had since simon. Awww, poor u. Keep them lies cmn."
The conflict is unlikely to end here.
Who do you believe? Who do you think is responsible for the conflict? Carey or Minaj or Idol producers? Does their conflict make you more or less likely to watch American Idol? (Take the poll below.)
