The American Idol finalists have been looking really good lately. Cool outfits, fabulous hair...So, what exactly goes into getting those glammed-up looks? Do the Idol stylists have all the say?

Eliminated Idol contestant Melissa McGhee answered that question in a phone call with the media last week.

"Actually, [contestants] have a big say so [in how they look], " she said. "The stylists] do give suggestions to you. For instance, my dress, I did pick my dress out. But I did have the stylist there with me, Art, and he obviously gave me his opinions about things and what we thought would best suit me. And my hair more or less – My hair kind of was more of Dean’s idea, which I totally agreed with. If it’s something that I don’t feel comfortable doing or wearing, they totally listen to you and you definitely have an input on what you want."

And how long does all of this take? "Hair and makeup is kind of all day long because you get it done in the morning and then you’ve got to touch it up for rehearsals and things like that," Melissa said. "But then they set an actual shopping day for you to go with a stylist, so it's a blast."
