Nick Lachey Says He and Jessica Were Playing Roles on Newlyweds

Thursday April 20, 2006
Nick LacheyNewly-divorced Nick Lachey says Newlyweds, the reality show that put him and his ex-wife Jessica Simpson on the fast track to international fame, wasn't exactly reality.

"When it first aired, we watched it on TV together, and we thought it was funny the same way everybody else thought it was funny," Nick told Rolling Stone. "But it was also, you know, surreal."

Jessica was portrayed as the dumb blonde. And Nick says he was portrayed as the one-dimensional Mr. Good Guy even though he is much more complex. "Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves," Nick said. "It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality."

"When you are on a reality show, your life ceases to be reality," Nick said. "It becomes TV."

If you've been curious about the details on Nick and Jessica's devasting breakup, you must read the rest of the article at RollingStone.com. Nick -- who reportedly cried at least a half dozen times during the interview -- reveals that Jessica is the one who wanted the divorce, he still loves her, and so much more.

These days, Nick is busy promoting his upcoming album What's Left of Me. Album cover courtesy of Jive.

It’s just so sad. I really thought they had a good relationship. I really loved their show.
