Are They Supermodel Material?
Top Model Hairstylist Neeko Weighs In On The Finalists
Is there a supermodel among the new group of America's Next Top Model finalists? Neeko, who gave the ladies their glam hair makeovers on last week's episode, doesn't seem to think so.
During an interview last week, Neeko had positive things to say about some of the Top Model wannabes but said a true supermodel has it all.
"The thing with a supermodel is that in the days of the supermodels, you had everything," he said. "You had height. You had skin that worked with every color. ..The thing with these girls is you're taking regular girls who may not be runway material or may be more beauty....and some runway girls aren't beauty material."
Neeko also shared his thoughts about how the mission of America's Next Top Model has changed.
"The show has kind of shifted to me. I'm just speaking on my opinion. The show shifted from taking a regular girl (inaudible) to take amazing pictures to getting a really regular girl and turning her into a tried and true model -- to learn fashion, to breathe fashion, to feel fashion…to actually capture that moment. It's changed... It's not going to take you from behind the counter of Walmart and put you on the front cover of Versace."

"We have a saying in our salon…that models are to be seen and not heard," he said. "They are hired to be like the main prop in a picture, in a story, in an ad…It's not really about the model. It's about what they're trying to sell. Whether it be clothes or jewelry or makeup or whatever. She's just the main prop. People don't look at it that way. But doing editorial and working with fashion, that's basically what the model is for. They are the main accessory."
Top Model airs Wednesday nights at 8 on the CW.
