Carly Smithson Says Charming Idol Boys Get Female Votes

Friday April 25, 2008

Eliminated American Idol contestant Carly Smithson says the show's "adorable" male contestants have been charming the votes out of female viewers.

"Women vote for this show, you know, it’s obvious and you know they vote for the boys," she said during a press call.  "The boys are adorable and I definitely feel that the girls had more of a struggle this year with trying to get the popularity vote.  I think the boys are definitely charming the females a lot, and they're very talented too.  Everyone's very talented, but I think it was definitely a bit of a struggle for the ladies. "

But Carly also believes in the strengths of the two ladies who remain in the competition.

"Syesha's got the whole R&B thing going on and she's got this huge voice," Carly said. "And Brooke always says that you know that she's not got that huge voice, but I think that there's something so special about her that she just stops you dead in your tracks when she opens her mouth."

In the end, Carly says the competition will be anyone's game. "I don't know, it could be [anyone].  You know, Castro could look into the camera and bat his eyelids and go into his amazing falsetto voice; and Brooke could you know just melt someone's heart; David Archuleta could just-you know they give these amazing performances every week, and everyone's so different that I honestly don't-I have no idea like who it could be between."
