What is American Dream Builders?
American Dream Builders is a one-hour reality competition on NBC in which 12 world-class designers and builders compete by creating whole home renovations. What sets American Dream Builders apart from other home makeover shows (like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition or Cousins Undercover) is the competition aspect. Home make-over shows renovate a house each episode, but usually there is no competition.
A few shows like Brother vs Brother and even Love It or List It, have two stars compete against each other. The closest show to offer American Dream Builders’ Top Chef style competition is Design Star in which interior designers compete for a chance to have their own HGTV show. American Dream Builders offers the competition with the emotional impact of watching a deserving family see their homes transformed.
How Does American Dream Builders Work?
Each week on American Dream Builders, competitors will be given a new house to redesign. Two teams will be tasked with creating a total home transformation, renovating and modernizing the entire house from the ground up, while staying true to the homes original character. For example, the contestants must not turn a Tudor a mid-century modern or vice versa.
American Dream Builders judges will review the completed work and determine which team achieved better results. The contestants face a judges’ panel and then the week’s losing team must eliminate one designer.
In the season finale, the two remaining designers will face off, each taking on the wholesale renovation of an impressive Southern California home in the hopes of bringing their dreams to life and winning American Dream Builders.
What Does the Winner of American Dream Builders Win?
The winner of American Dream Builders will be crowned the “Ultimate Dream Builder” and take home a $250,000 cash prize.
