After a summer of rampant rumors about which celebrities would be appearing on the thirteenth season of Dancing With the Stars, the list of cast members was announced. Meet the stars learning dance moves and strutting their stuff--and learn which DWTS' professional dancer they are paired with.
Dancing With the Stars Season Thirteen premiered September 19th. It airs on ABC.
1. David Arquette
Actor David Arquette is best known for his role in the Scream horror trilogy where he portrayed police officer Dewey Riley. It was on the Scream set that Arquette met his now estranged wife, Cougar Town's Courtney Cox-Arquette.
In 2000, Arquette won the World Championship Wrestling professional wrestling World Heavyweight Championship, but was often seen as comic relief in the competition. Still, the training he went through for those athletic pursuits may come in handy during the competition on Dancing With the Stars. Arquette will be paired with professional dancer Kym Johnson.
2. Ron Artest
Controversial pro ball player Ron Artest was once known for drinking, erratic behavior, allegations of animal abuse, and an arrest for domestic assault. Then Artest went through therapy, supported numerous causes (including animal rights), launched a reality show Last Second Shot to mentor paroles and he filed paperwork to officially change his name to Metta World Peace (really).
Artest has played professional basketball since 1999, and he broke Michael Jordan's record for the number of steals in his first two years with the NBA. Artest now plays with the Los Angeles Lakers. Artest will be paired with professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd, a member of the DWTS troupe.
3. Chaz Bono
Chaz Bono is a transgender activist and author of three books including his recent memoir, Transition. Bono is the child of entertainers Sonny and Cher, and grew up in the media spotlight.
Bono came out as transgender and underwent a gender transition. Becoming Chaz is the Emmy-nominated film that documented that transition. Bono remains actively involved in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equal rights movement.
For Dancing With the Stars Season Thirteen Chaz Bono will be paired with professional dancer and former So You Think You can Dance contestant Lacey Schwimmer.
4. Elisabetta Canalis
Elisabetta Canalis may be most widely known as George Clooney's ex-girlfriend, but the Italian beauty has made a name for herself (especially in her home country) as a model, host of television shows and an actress. She had a recurring role on the TNT show Leverage.
Elisabetta Canalis will be paired with professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy, younger brother of pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, for the 13th season of Dancing With the Stars.
Kristin Cavallari starred in the MTV reality shows Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills. As an actress she has appeared in supporting roles in a handful of television shows and starred in movies like Wild Cherry. Cavallari is also an activist known for supporting PETA, NOH8 (supporting same-sex marriage), and AIDS research.
In Dancing With the Stars Season Thirteen, Kristin Cavallari will be paired with veteran professional dancer Mark Ballas.
6. Nancy Grace
Former prosecutor Nancy Grace is a legal commentator and one of America's most vocal advocates for victim rights. She currently hosts the current events show Nancy Grace on HLN. Grace was also the host of Court TV's Closing Arguments and Swift Justice with Nancy Grace, a syndicated courtroom reality show.
Now Grace is competing on the 13th season of Dancing With the Stars, where she'll be dancing with professional partner Tristan MacManus from the DWTS troupe. If Nancy Grace is as formidable an opponent on the stage as she is as an interviewer, I wouldn't want to be competing against her!
7. Rob Kardashian
Rob Kardashian is the less famous brother of the Kardashian sisters, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney. Along with his siblings, Kardashian appears in the E! reality shows Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Khloe & Lamar. He's even following sister Kim's footsteps by competing on Dancing With the Stars; she was on Season Seven. Rob will be partnered with professional dancer Cheryl Burke for the thirteen season of the ABC reality competition.
Rob is also a model and talent agent and he has at least one thing over big sis Kim: a college degree.
Carson Kressley came to fame as the fashion expert on the Emmy-winning Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, a reality show where five gay men, known as the "Fab Five," provide makeovers to fashion-inept straight men. Kressley has also hosted How to Look Good Naked, served as a judge on True Beauty, and launched Carson Nation, his new show on the Oprah Winfrey Netwrork (OWN) that has Kressley traveling the country in an RV, finding deserving people for his special brand of makeover.
For Season Thirteen of Dancing With the Stars Carson Kressley will be dancing with professional partner Anna Trebunskaya.
9. Ricki Lake
Ricki Lake hosted the talk show Ricki Lake for nearly a decade. In 2009, she joined the cast of VH1’s reality show, Charm School, where she hosted the third season.
As an actress, Lake is best known for her role as Tracy Turnblad in the original Hairspray movie, but she's appeared in more than a dozen films and TV shows (including Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva).
Ricki Lake will compete on Dancing With the Stars Season Thirteen--where she'll be partnered with Derek Hough--before launching a new talk show in 2012.
10. J.R. Martinez
Since 2008 J.R. Martinez has appeared on the soap opera All My Children in the role of Brot Monroe. He is also a motivational speaker who travels extensively. An Iraq vet, Martinez suffered severe burns to over 40 percent of his body.
After recovering from that, competing in Dancing With the Stars should be a snap! J.R. Martinez will be dancing with professional partner Katrina Smirnoff.
11. Chynna Phillips
More Hollywood royalty, Chynna Phillips is a singer who recorded songs alone and with the trio Wilson Phillips. The daughter of Mamas and the Papas crooner John Phillips, Phillips has also voiced a character on the animated children's show Danny Phantom and appeared in several movies including Some Kind of Wonderful and Say Anything. She is married to William Baldwin, has three children, and also works with the charity Los Angelitos Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico.
Chynna Phillips will be paired with professional dancer Tony Dovolani in the thirteenth Dancing With the Stars.
12. Hope Solo
Hope Solo is a professional soccer player who has played in the World Cup and Olympics. After several Twitter controversies and shoulder surgery in 2010, the goalkeeper plays with the MagicJack team in Women's Professional Soccer competition.
Hope Solo's athleticism should serve her well in the Dancing With the Stars competition, where she'll be partnering with professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
