But in the end, it all came down to two:
- Phillip Phillips: the twenty-one-year-old may not have been the most fashionable of the Season 11 contestants (that prize went to Colton Dixon), but Phillips is the most multitalented musician. He sings, writes songs and plays the bass, piano and drums. Plus, he has a sensitive side and was willing to let the world see his adorable bromance with fellow contestant Heejun Han.
- Jessica Sanchez: When she was just 11, Jessica Sanchez became a semifinalist on America’s Got Talent, and Simon Cowell called her, "one the best I have ever heard." On the 11th season of American Idol the now 16-year-old singer has gotten mix reviews with Idol judge Steven Tyler once saying, "I don't think you could sing a song bad," while also failing to do justice to Whitney Houston (trust me, no one can, please stop letting Idol contestants try), and introducing an alter-ego, Bebe Chez. Still the scrappy fighter wasn't giving up without a fight.
The two-night finale was crammed full of extra's including judge Jennifer Lopez' album drop, the engagement of two former Idol contestants and numerous musical tributes.
The winner, who would be signed immediately to a record deal with up to six albums and reportedly cash in the tune of $1 million during the first year alone, had been chosen by a record 132.3 million votes cast. Not that the runner-up goes away empty handed. In addition to joining the Idol Live Tour (which can earn them six-figures), the runner-up also gets a record deal--as do some of the top ten.
Although it has taken you a while to read this article, that is only a fraction of the amount of time that host Ryan Seacrest would make you wait during the life show. So, without further ado: The winner of American Idol Season 11 is...Phillip Phillips. Congratulations, congratulations.
