After months of competition, Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee have made it to the American Idol finals. Here's why each finalist should or shouldn't win the top title.

Why Taylor Should Win

Whether you love him or sorta like him, you have to admit that Taylor brought something different to American Idol this year. When Taylor's audition footage aired on Idol, I thought it was another audition prank -- a forty-something man with gray hair pretending to be in his twenties. Ha ha! But Taylor turned out to be no joke, wowing judges and fans each week with his soulful and joyful performances. Sure, I've been annoyed at times by his strange twitching/dancing and his random cries of "Soul Patrol." But I do admit that I have been entertained by Taylor. He's a star!

Why Taylor Shouldn't Win

I just can't picture Taylor Hicks' video landing at number one on MTV's video countdown TRL. That doesn't mean his music isn't great, it just means his music and image probably won't appeal to the MTV crowd -- and that's the crowd to win over if you really want to sell records.

Why Katharine Should Win

I know it shouldn't make a difference that Katharine is gorgeous, but in some ways it does make a difference. Katharine has the complete package -- looks, a great voice, and a decent personality. I can imagine that young girls will eventually idolize her. And the show is about finding the next big music idol.

Why Katharine Shouldn't Win

There are plenty of pop princess out there. Katharine may just get lost in the crowd.
