Big Brother 9 Recap: Week of March 2

From Jamie Brezinski, for About.com

Previously on Big Brother 9…

Sheila and Allison are not lesbians which for some reason makes Joshuah angry. Operation Condor was a success which makes some House Guests happy and some miserable. If you need more exposition just watch any episode at any time. The editors are great at spoon feeding the audience all the information you need to follow along, and then some.

Josh - The Angry Despot

Joshuah feels that no one should lie about being gay, ever. Reminding us again his outrage towards Allison is A) valid (it’s not), B) and based on umbrage over the struggles of gays in our society (it’s not), and C) not about Allison upsetting his stratagem to evict Matt/Natalie (it is).

Matt and Natalie Are No Ryan and Kelly

Matt has no use for Natalie except as a friend and a partner. He is sorry he was mean to her, but she needs to back off and understand it’s a game and they aren’t soul mates. Natalie for her part feels they were put together for a reason and she wants them to get to know each other. Also to fall in love and have 100 babies while they live happily ever after in the world that exists only in her mind. He explains she will make some guy very happy someday but it won’t be him. In any reality. He is sorry she misinterpreted their physical hooking up as anything more. She says she understands.

She does understand that Matt says they aren’t soul mates but that is probably just his game face. And they actually are soul mates. Sad, deluded Natalie. It has always been my understanding that the dubious distinction of soul mates cannot exist where one person is repelled by the other. If you want to see this kind of thing played out on TV well I suggest you watch The Office. Matt and Natalie are no Ryan Howard and Kelly Kapoor. Why isn’t the grand prize of this game $500,000 worth of therapy?

Food Challenge – BigASSparagus

Throughout the yard are hundreds and hundreds of pounds of fresh asparagus. The women of the house are in green unitards wearing crowns of asparagus on their heads. Adam loves this look so much that he should be forced to stay 100 yards from Farmer’s Markets everywhere.

The women sit on pallets and the men have 5 minutes to load a second pallet with asparagus to equal the weight of their partner within 10 pounds. They can only gauge the weight by lifting. Joshuah and Sharon, as HOH, will be allowed to help lift and offer their “expert” opinions.

I want very much to see the resume in which someone professes to be an expert in guessing someone’s weight in asparagus.

Each couple is playing to win a week of a specific food group for the house. And the results are: James/Chelsia win snacks and beverages, Sheila/Adam win fruits and veggies, Matt/Natalie lose carbs and a feast for the house.

Nomination Ceremony

Everyone is nervous heading into nominations. Now that we’ve taken the emotional temperature of the House Guests on to the ceremony…Adam/Sheila are safe. James/Chelsia are safe. Allison/Ryan and Matt/Natalie are nominated for eviction.

Joshuah/Sharon put the two strongest couples are on the block as he feels this is what’s best for the game. Sharon is proud that Joshuah managed to conduct the Nomination Ceremony without verbally attacking anyone. She points out that things went well because he used his inside voice and grown up words like a big boy. I have no idea what her future career goals are, but if she chooses to become a pre-school teacher her partner is certainly giving her a lot of practice.

POV Challenge: Cupid Is As Cupid Does

Competing will be the HOH (Joshuah/Sheila), the 2 couples on the block (Matt/Natalie, Ryan/Amanda), and the randomly selected couple (Adam/Sheila). James will host the competition.

The women will be in harnesses attached to their partners. As the men run across the field to gather puzzle pieces the women are hoisted into the air where they will assemble the puzzle. There are more puzzle pieces than are needed, which complicates things somewhat. When the puzzle is complete the men will hand an arrow to their partner who will pierce their heart and win the game. (Unfortunately, they are piercing a plastic heart and not their actual hearts - which would have been an interesting way to eliminate people. Maybe next season.) Matt/Natalie and Allison/Ryan take the leads quickly, and it comes down to the final piece. Due to more effective communication Matt/Natalie win the POV.
