Big Brother 9 Recap: Week of March 9

From Jamie Brezinski, for About.com

The Previous Evictees - Where Are They Now?

Remember the twist, where we were all encouraged to vote to give an evicted player a chance to reenter the game? Before the winner is announced Julie wants to check in with the former House Guests. They are all in separate sequester houses (although couples evicted together are still together) and have had no contact with other evictees. Jacob prays, professes his love for Sharon, and prays some more. Parker and Jen engage in a little friendly banter about who should be sent back to the house. Jen wants to go back with a vengeance while Parker thinks another chance would be “awesome.” That was riveting.

Alex and Amanda can’t stand each other, which should make sequester fun for both of them. And then there is Allison. She is desperate for another shot at winning the game. She feels she’s by far the most deserving person of the opportunity to exact revenge since she took all the torture and ridicule and remained strong. If she gets to go back it’s going to break bad in a big way. Allison is still entitled and delusional. Nice to see she hasn’t changed a bit.

All the past evictees are gathered together to hear the results of the voting. Whether or not the winner will reenter the game will be up to the House Guests. They will vote for either the previously evicted Mystery Guest (they won’t know which previous player will come back) or the person voted out this evening to renter the game. The Mystery Guest will be hidden in a giant gift wrapped box. This is the worst gift anyone has tried to give since Odysseus decided to send a horse to the Trojans.

Alex won with the most votes, with Parker coming in second place.

Eviction Vote

Back in the Big Brother house Julie reads the results of the vote to evict either James or Sharon. With a vote of 5-1 James is asked to leave. In the exit interview James is asked why no one but Chelsia bid him farewell. That was at his request as he didn’t want to say goodbye to anyone who didn’t keep their word. He’s now informed that he might not be going anywhere, and Julie Chen explains the twist as they watch what unfolds as the rest of the House Guests are let in on the little secret.

The Return of…

The siren sounds in the house and everyone gathers in the living room to await Big Brother’s announcement. Julie explains to everyone their choice between James and Mystery Guest and instructs them to vote immediately. Ryan, Matt, and Sheila vote for the Mystery Guest while Chelsia, Joshuah, Natalie, Adam, and Sharon vote for James. James it is - as he pops out of the box.

Big Brother Disco: The HOH Competition

As current HOH Ryan sits this one out, everyone else stands on a platform mounted over a disco ball on circular carnival rigging. Once they are situated they are hoisted off the ground and the device begins to rotate. They aren’t allowed to squat at this point in the game, they must remain upright. As the episode ends everyone is still in the game, although Adam is already struggling. As this is an endurance challenge it will take a while. The winner will be announced on Sunday night’s show.

Addendum - Amusing Editing

When the previous evictees were being interviewed together Allison was happy to hear that Ryan won HOH last week. Actually, I am guessing she was happy, because her answer to how she feels about Ryan’s HOH wasn’t aired. Her lips were moving but the audio feed was from the house… Matt talking about going to the bathroom. Also, during the HOH competition, apropos of nothing, they cut to a close up of one of the guinea pigs. I think they threw that moment of cuteness at us to distract us from the fact that even though it was eviction night we still have nine tedious suck monkeys mugging for the cameras. Someone should send the crew a gift basket.
