Big Brother 9 Recap: Week of March 30

From Jamie Brezinski, for About.com

James - Oh What a Lonely Boy

James is lonely without Chelsia, and is an island unto himself in the house. It’s taking an emotional toll on him. Since he’s taking an emotional toll on me let’s call that even, shall we? Meanwhile Josh is scared that James will win the POV and Natalie will put him up against Sharon which is his worst case scenario.

In the Sauna Room Sheila is giving a pep talk to James about his having nine lives in the house, and how he will win the POV and save himself. James is wallowing in self pity as he came to play the game and is now being persecuted for it. Not nearly as much as he’s persecuted others for also being there to play the game, but he lacks the self awareness to see this. He really needed Sheila’s support due to how alone he feels right now.

And because Sheila doesn’t know when to stop, while James is in the other room trying to sleep she heads to the kitchen to give the same pep talk to Josh, bashing James in the process. It occurs to me that Sheila acts like one of the mean girls in school who isn’t popular, but wants to impress the cool kids so she’s brutal to the geeks in hopes it will gain her acceptance. That didn’t work in Junior High for those who tried it, and it won’t work here.

James gets up to confront her in what was quite an ugly diatribe about her lying and backstabbing. He’s trying not to cry and it came off to me that he had really reached the end of his rope with the mind games. I have to say she brought that completely on herself so no pity points from me. I do wish the all knowing Big Brother would have required James to wear pants for his little rampage, as it’s hard to give credence to any words being spewed by a man in a t-shirt and tiny briefs, no matter how valid.

A note to all future male BB contestants: If you want sympathy from the viewing audience please pack boxers. On TV the tight BVDs just look like panties.

The Veto Competition - Big Brother Boardwalk

Now to pick the players for the Veto Competition. Playing will be Natalie as HOH, Josh and James as the two nominees, Sheila and Sharon chosen by random draw, and Ryan who was picked by Natalie since she drew House Guests Choice for her random draw. Adam as the only hamster not playing will be hosting.

The back yard is strewn with random objects which makes James nervous as he knows it’s now a numbers game and that isn’t his strong suit. Big Brother will ask various questions about the objects in the yard and the players need to guess the amount of said objects. Once they see everyone’s answers they will opt to either “stay” or “fold”. If they stay, the person whose answer is closest will gain one points and the one whose answer is off by the most will be eliminated. If they fold they get no points, but avoid elimination. The first person to amass three points will win the golden power of veto.
