Our Best
With an hour and a half of airtime to cover, and only 3 celebrities doing 2 dances each, there was a lot – a lot! – of filler and commercials in last night’s show. One of the filler segment was to have each team talk about what they thought were their best Ballroom and Latin dances.Brooke Burke and Derek Hough oddly thought their Quickstep was their best Ballroom and deemed it “flawless” although it was their Foxtrot that earned them their only perfect score from the judges. Their best Latin was their Paso Doble. Derek said that since this was a dancing show, “voting on dancing [alone], Brooke should be our champion.”
Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer thought their best Ballroom was their Tango, because it was the first time that their risky choreography actually paid off. Their best Ballroom was their Mambo in the semifinals, which jumpstarted Lance’s ascension on the dance floor that week. Lacey said Lance deserved to win because he’s “the most improved dancer on the show.”
Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson thought their best Ballroom was the Viennese Waltz because that was the first time Warren had done a slow dance, and had done it well enough to impress both Kym and the judges. Their best Latin was their wildly popular Matrix-themed Paso Doble. Kym said Warren deserves to win because he “captures the essence of what the show is. . .[he] lights up the dance floor and really excites the crowd.”
Samba Smackdown
For their first dance, all three celebrities would do a group Samba, where they’d get a chance to do individual showcases with their partners within the group routine. It would allow the judges (and audience) to compare their dancing side-by-side.Brooke and Derek had a strange start, where there was a 10 second period where Derek was spinning and Brooke was just standing there, holding her hand out to him. Misstep? Their routine was, of course, technically solid, but again, Brooke’s legs were slightly bent. Carrie Ann said that it was a “hair ambitious” and that they might want to dial it back a little since it was “awkward at times.” Overall though, it was “still fantastic.” Len said in Week 1 he thought Brooke was the one to beat and “[she’s] still the one to beat.” Bruno said it was “really dazzling, [and] sexy.” Brooke was a “sizzler of a dancer” and that “all the guys would like to drive that model!” Carrie Ann and Len gave Brooke 9’s, while Bruno gave her a 10 for a total of 28. Lance and Lacey were good as well, and Lance’s hip action has improved, although his toes were pointed inwards at times. Carrie Ann said “something’s happening with [Lance] that’s exciting” and that he’s “getting better and better.” Len said that he loved “the energy [Lance] brings out” but he needs to “work on finesse.” Bruno said that Lance has “come up leaps and bounds in your confidence” and that Lance “really could be [the winner].” Carrie Ann and Bruno gave Lance 9’s, while Len gave him an 8 for a total of 26.
Warren and Kym did a very nice Samba showcase, and Warren was incredibly light on his feet, and really shaking his hips. Carrie Ann said that Warren is the “most improved” and that his “style points are definitely getting there.” Len said he was “concerned about [Warren’s] feet” but still thought it was “fantastic.” Bruno said the “technique was not brilliant but we love to watch you.” Carrie Ann and Bruno gave Warren 9’s, while Len gave him a 7 for a total of 25.
