Robert has gained a new sense of independence and freedom, and the family has a completely remodeled home. After his accident, Robert moved into the bottom level of his family's tri-level house, which had been serving as the recreation room. He was no longer able to go upstairs or to other places in his house, and could only enter the home through the front door. In the possible event of an emergency, someone had to stay in the house with him at all times, since he couldn't open the doors to the outside. Among other inconveniences for him, the clothes in his closet were hung too high, he could't access his medication on his own, and the bathtub and shower were difficult to use without his mom and step-dad's help.
The Zitek Family -- which includes Robert, his mom, Pat, his step-father, Lon Zitek, his sister, Nisha Gil, and his 13-year-old brother, Andrew Zitek - went on a well-deserved Disneyland Cruise vacation for seven days. Meanwhile, a team of designers, contractors, over 100 construction workers and even some helpful neighbors worked tirelessly to transform Robert's living space into a modern, high-tech area that allows him freedom, independence and privacy. The team also totally remodeled the rest of the house, since Robert wanted that done too as a thank-you to his family for taking care of him.
