Run's House Review

About.com Rating threehalf out of Five

By Latoya West, About.com

The Bottom Line

As one-third of the legendary rap group Run DMC, Joseph "Run" Simmons rocked the music scene in the 1980's. If you are curious about where he is now, look no further than his new MTV reality series "Run's House."
Pros
  • Finally! An MTV reality show that the entire family will enjoy.
Cons
  • Some episodes seem more Cosby Show than reality show.

Guide Review - Run's House Review

Run's House is the second MTV reality series to feature a past-his-prime music star, his wife, and his teenage children. The first was The Osbournes, which paved the way for reality TV families to come. But don't expect the Simmons family of Run's House to use four letter words in every sentence or throw meat over their neighbor's fence. They are a different kind of MTV family -- the kind that schedules talks about the birds and the bees, plans high school graduation parties (alcohol-free, at that), and go to church (Dad went from rap star to Reverend). Their lives may not have the same level of excitement as the Osbournes, but the Simmons have the stuff to make an enjoyable TV show.

So far, the episodes have been focused on Run's children. As they go through the joys and pangs of growing up, they are like most kids across America -- except a lot wealthier. Despite the wealth, Run brings his daughters back to earth when they get carried away with extravagant and expensive plans.

Run doesn't claim to know it all when it comes to dealing with his children, so at times he seeks advice from some famous folks. His brother Russell Simmons and his friend P. Diddy are examples. Bring on the celebrity cameos!

Run's House isn't exactly must-see TV yet -- so far, I only catch the reruns occasionally -- but the show is certainly becoming more Tivo-worthy as I grow attached to Run and his family.

I do suggest that you take a visit to Run's House. Maybe you will like it there.
