The Bottom Line

The name of the show is "But Can They Sing?" And the answer is no, they can't sing. But it's still fun to watch celebrities perform on the VH1 talent competition. Besides, if you enjoy watching C-list stars learn something new, "But Can They Sing?" is a great show to watch while you wait for the next season of "Dancing With the Stars."

Watch this show before going to bed on Sunday night.

Pros
  • Nice variety of C-list celebs.
  • Movie star Bai Ling shows her wild personality.
  • Carmine Gotti's rapping is a treat for screaming teenage girls.
Cons
  • It's hard to watch some of the more embarrasing performances.
  • Judges are not as witty as the judges on "Dancing With the Stars."

Guide Review - Review of VH1's Celeb Talent Competition "But Can They Sing?"

This show is for everyone who ever sang into their hairbrush in front of the bathroom mirror. Nine pop star wannabes (who happen to be famous for other talents) get to live out their musical dreams on stage, in front of a national audience.

But can they sing?

The short answer is no. The stars' performances range from horrible to okay. But if you remember that this isn't American Idol, it is easy to forgive the wobbly voice of ex-model Kim Alexis or the weak rapping skills of reality star Carmine Gotti. Ex-boxer Larry Holmes may even charm you with his soulful sounds.

But watch out for actress Bai Ling. On the first episode of "But Can They Sing?", the Chinese star showed her wild side as she sang (or should I say croaked) Madonna's "Like a Virgin" while crawling seductively around the stage. She ended the performance by ripping off her skirt. Hilarious!
