When To Watch:

The Apprentice airs Sunday nights (9-10 p.m. ET)

The Stars Of The Apprentice:

  • Business mogul Donald Trump
  • His advisors Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump. (Carolyn Kepcher and George Ross were Trump's advisors during the first seasons of the show.)
  • Apprentice candidates.

    What It's About:

A group of professionals compete to become real estate mogul Donald Trump's next apprentice.

    How The Apprentice Works:

    • Before a new season airs, producers scour the country to find a group of TV-ready candidates. The chosen professionals must have impressive resumes and work history.

    • Usually, the candidates move into a fabulous New York City suite in the Trump Tower. They are divided into two teams. For season six, the candidates moved into an LA mansion.

    • On each episode, the teams must complete high-pressure tasks that puts their business skills to the test. Tasks could be anything from coming up with a new ad campaign to remodeling a real estate property.

    • On the first seasons of the show, the winning team was rewarded with a small prize, such as a shopping trip. During the sixth season, winning teams were allowed to stay in the mansion while losing teams were forced to sleep outside in tents.

    • But most importantly, the members of the winning team are safe for another week. No one is eliminated. The losing team must go to the boardroom where they face Donald Trump.

    • At the end of the boardroom meeting, three people are usually at risk of being sent home -- the project manager and the two teammates that team leader claims should be fired.

    • The unlucky three plead their case to Donald Trump. Trump decides who deserves to go home and tells the candidate "You're fired."

    • At the end of the season -- after countless firings and team rearranging -- the last job candidate left standing is crowned Donald Trump's new apprentice. He or she is offered a job with the Trump Organization.

    From Your Guide:

So many people in the business world have told me that they watch the Apprentice because the show is like a college-level class in business. But since I am sooo far from being a business type, I watch this show for the weekly catfights and the unavoidable backstabbing. The drama never ends on the Apprentice. After all, this is the show that introduced Omorasa to the world. Yikes!

    Ratings:

  • During its first season, an average of 20.7 million people watched The Apprentice each week. It was the #1 new show of the season among total viewers and among adults ages 18-49. Ratings have declined in the most recent seasons.
