Solo in Brooklyn
Tim’s last stop was in Brooklyn, New York where Kenley was working on her collection which she said was inspired by “painting roses red” meaning a lot of painted on designs to her outfits and colorful designs. Kenley revealed that her grandmother was a “calendar girl” and a big inspiration for her and she was sad that her grandmother passed away recently and couldn’t see what Kenley was doing now. Kenley also confessed that she “values Tim’s opinion, even though it looks like [she doesn’t].” Oddly, there was no personal time with Kenley, as she didn’t introduce Tim to any family or friends. They did have a moving moment when Tim praised her wedding dress and Kenley began to cry. She said this wasn’t about “winning” but making her dreams come true.
Mark Your Territory!
Korto was the first to return to New York City and she revealed that she hoped she wouldn’t have to room with Kenley, so when Leanne was the next to arrive, Korto was thrilled (as was Leanne). Leanne joked that she would need to “mark my territory” in their hotel suite to which Korto jokingly told her to “pee on it.”
What A Difference
The other designers weren’t exactly eager about reuniting with Kenley, but when she returned, she immediately apologized, stating, “I’m sorry I was being a bitch and everything” and declared that she wanted to “be cool with everyone.” That helped to ease tensions, and the champagne Heidi sent along also helped, and before long, the four were wishing each other well in the upcoming fashion face-off.
Another Challenge
The next day, Tim greeted the designers with a surprise – there would be an additional challenge besides their wedding dresses. Given an additional $150 and one day, they were tasked with creating a bridesmaid dress to go along with their wedding dress.
Differing Views
Korto and Jerell seemed to having differing views on bridesmaid dresses. Korto said they were “evening dresses made up to frou-frou up a wedding.” Jerell, meanwhile, said that “bridesmaid dresses are ugly.”
Truce for Now
You can file this under “Things We’d Never Thought We’d See on the Show” – Kenley and Korto joking around with each other while working on their bridesmaid dresses. Truce was apparently called, or as Korto put it, “she’s good in my book until she pisses me off again.”
Tim Says
Tim sensed some “ambivalence” from Kenley regarding her bridesmaid dress and she revealed that she was “stressed out” and didn’t want to miss out on showing her collection based on a bridesmaid dress. Tim sympathized and told her she should focus on the “fun, upbeat” aspect of her collection. Tim advised Leanne to think about the length of her bridesmaid dress and Leanne decided that she would go with “shorter [and] cuter.” Tim thought Jerell’s dress was a “little sloppy” and that the detailing should be more natural. Tim told Jerell not to “fight mother nature,” to which Jerell quipped, “or Nina Garcia.” Finally, Tim thought that Korto’s bridesmaid dress was too similar to her wedding dress, or as he observed, “I’m seeing two wedding dresses.”
Verklempt
Tim got choked up as he told the designers how sincerely fond of them he was and how he was going to hate losing one of them. Then he bid them all good luck and left them with a final, “make it work!”
Just Us Three
There was no guest judge this week as it was just Heidi, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors making the decision on who would go to Bryant Park.
Fabulous
The judges loved Kenley and Leanne. Kenley’s off-white, feather and tulle wedding dress (kind of reminiscent of the tutu costumes worn in the ballet, Swan Lake) was deemed “beautifully done” even if it was a little “Alexander McQueen.” They thought Kenley was “kooky [but] meticulous” and that her designs invoked a “dream [and] fantasy.” Her deep blue, bubble skirt bridesmaid dress was declared “the cutest damn dress I’ve ever seen” by Nina, and Heidi said overall, it was “crazy good.” Leanne’s traditional white wedding dress with large pleating in the two-tiered skirt was called “so chic.” It was “beautifully crafted” and looked “modern and dreamy.” It was simply a “beautiful, beautiful wedding dress.” As for her seafoam blue bridesmaid dress with pleating at the bodice, the judges thought it was “absolutely beautiful” and Heidi said overall, Leanne did a “fantastic job.”
Not-So-Fabulous
The judges weren’t so thrilled with Korto or Jerell. Jerell’s grayish wedding dress with big tulle skirt and heavily adorned bodice was thought to be “garish.” The bodice made his model look like she had “winged boobs [and] jeweled boobs” and overall it looked messy. There was too much beading and just “too much.” As Michael Kors put it, Jerell went “hog wild” and not in a good way. They also weren’t thrilled with his choice of gray, because it made the dress “look a little dirty.” As for his dark green, strapless bridesmaid dress, the judges thought it was a “bit mumsy.” Korto’s tan/brownish wedding dress with ruffled shoulder details, the judges thought was “overworked.” Meanwhile, they thought her short, halter-top bridesmaid dress was “underworked.” The wedding dress was “overkill” while the bridesmaid dress was “boring” and in the end, the judges couldn’t see “the relevance between the two [dresses].”
The Ladies Have It
On the merit of their wedding attire designs, Leanne and Kenley advanced to Bryant Park, which means the third and final spot was between Jerell and Korto. In the end, the judges picked Korto. Jerell didn’t seem to take his elimination too hard, maintaining his confidence and declaring that one day, “when [he’s] 80” people were going to gather at the Met to do a retrospective on his life. He exited with a dig at one of the judges, noting that if you want a “plain white tee, you can get that from Michael Kors.”
