That’s What Friends Are For?
Kenley professed to be sad over Daniel’s elimination since he was, in her words, “my best friend here.” That was really a surprise to us, considering she once laughed in his face while they were all facing the judging panel on the runway. If that’s how she treats her friends, her enemies best take cover!
Model Elimination Times Two
Since the designers didn’t use their models in last week’s drag queen challenge, two models (Daniel’s and Kelli’s) were up for elimination or swap this week. Last week’s winner, Joe, opted to stay with his model so there was no swap, so the two models were eliminated.
Changing the World, One Outfit at a Time
Keith was more intense than usual this week, noting that he really wanted to win, and that as a designer, “[he wants] to change the way the world dresses.”
Cars
The designers were told to meet Tim on the rooftop of a parking garage, where they found several cars from Saturn (one of the show’s sponsors) lined up next to Tim and Chris Webb, lead color designer for Saturn.
Second Chances
This week’s challenge required the designers to create an outfit out of Saturn car parts. Like the grocery store challenge in the first week, this challenge would be about innovation, and Tim expressed his hope that the designers would be more innovative than they were in Week 1.
Stripped For Parts
Tim revealed that each of the cars contained individual car parts inside them and gave the designers 4 minutes in which to grab whatever parts they could. The mad rush definitely gave new meaning to the phrase, “stripped for parts.”
Now That’s the Spirit!
Jerell proved to truly embrace the challenge’s call for innovation when he noted that “[he] grabbed a headlight. Maybe I’ll work it into a brooch.”
Making it Personal
Keith was still smarting from last week’s challenge where his design was taken to task by the judging panel. He seemed to take their criticisms much too personally. He noted that he was going to tone down his designs because he was more worried about what the “bleeping judges” would say, than about crafting something he really wanted. Later, when Terri asked for his opinion on her garment, he snarked, “I wouldn’t trust my taste. Apparently it’s questionable.”
It’s About Me, Not the Model!
Kenley was informed at the first fitting that her model had to drop out. This prompted a rather extended period of whining from her, where she bemoaned the fact that she would have to rework her design to get it to fit her new model. When another designer noted that maybe her model had to take a better paying gig, Kenley didn’t seem to care, noting that this wasn’t about her model. We aren’t too sympathetic to Kenley since Keith had the same problem in Week 3 and in the words of Tim Gunn, you just have to “make it work.”
Tim Time
In his early assessments, Tim expressed concerns about Blayne’s, Stella’s and Keith’s designs. He commented on the shape of Blayne’s design and wondered if it would fit well. He worried that Stella’s design did not show enough innovation and told Keith that while it was good that he was tailoring his designs to please the judging panel, “you have to believe in the design too.”
Jeepers Creepers
Terri remarked that Korto’s design kind of resembled a scarecrow, and that it reminded her of the movie Jeepers Creepers. Terri found this comparison quite amusing, but Jerell wasn’t amused by Terri’s antics. He noted that “]Terri] has two faces [and] four patterns. Don’t trust the bitch.”
Ratbones?
Stella needed a late night pep talk so she called her boyfriend, who she is planning on starting a fashion line with, and we learned that his nickname is “Ratbones.” Now that is a back story we’d like to hear!
