WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Pop-star wannabes compete each week to win a recording contract and the title of American Idol. During the competition, the contestants must perform live for America and a panel of judges.
The judges provide feedback after each performance but viewer votes determine which contestants will go forward in the competition. The performers with the lowest numbers of votes are eliminated each week until only one
contestant remains.
