The Smoking Gun is reporting that American Idol 4 singer Scott Savol was once arrested for felony domestic violence after and altercation with his son's mother in 2001.
Scott reportedly shoved the woman during the altercation. She also told police that he used verbal threats against her.
Scott's plea was reduced to misdemeanor disorder conduct after he struck a plea deal with police. He was fined $500, put on one year's probation, and ordered to complete a domestic violence or anger management program.
What will this mean for Scott's future on American Idol? Apparently, nothing. Idol producers were aware of the matter but they allowed Scott to stay in the competition. Fox said is a statement: "Scott Savol was forthcoming to the American Idol producers and the network regarding his misdemeanor.
After reviewing the facts, in which the charges were reduced to disorderly conduct, we felt that considering Scott's honesty and his remorse, the situation did not warrant his disqualification."
