Broadway Woman
Tyce choreographed a Broadway routine for Mark's and Chelsie's second dance. Dancing to "I'm A Woman" from Smokin' Joe's Café, their routine had good energy and both danced their "characters" well, although Chelsie danced stronger in our opinion. Nigel said he just came back from Vegas and "it was 110 in Vegas but not nearly as hot as that!" He seemed rather fixated on Chelsie's legs and thought the routine was "great entertainment." Mary thought it was "sultry [and] sexy." Mia said the performance "was a success" but that she thought it showed Mark's "lack of training and technique." On the whole, however, she thought it was "cool."
Still No Connection
Mandy Moore choreographed a Contemporary routine for Comfort's and Thayne's second performance. Set to George Michael's "A Different Corner," their performance still lacked chemistry and connection. They danced the steps, but there was something distinctly lacking in it. It didn't help that Comfort had a completely blank expression on her face the entire routine. Nigel said he thought the "choreography deserved more" and that he wished another couple had danced that routine. Mary said it "wasn't completely believable." Mia disagreed with Nigel and Mary and thought that Thayne was "stunning [and] brilliant." She was not, however, as generous in her assessment of Comfort who she thought "could only fake so much."
The Dreaded Quickstep
Will and Jessica were unfortunate to get the Quickstep as their second dance. The Quickstep has a history of bringing down even the best dancers on this show, and Will and Jessica were no exception. Choreographed by Tony and Melanie and set to "Bandstand Boogie," the dance had elements of other ballroom dances in it. It was a fun routine, but lacked technically and looked a little sloppy at times. Nigel said that it was "not good." Mary said that was "very heavy" and "not fast enough across the floor." Mia took off the kid gloves and really let Jessica have it, saying that she went back to dancing from a "disconnected [and] insecure place," and that Will "looked tired" from having to carry her for so long. She then bluntly stated that Will "needs a new partner." Ouch.
Jazzy Jungle
Courtney and Gev got a Mandy Moore Jazz routine for their second number. Dancing to "Standing There" by The Creatures, the dance was supposed to be about a couple lost in the jungle, and engaging in that eternal debate between the genders - how to read a map! It was a fun routine, danced well but there was nothing extraordinary about it. Nigel said that "[they] were always fun." Mary "loved the routine and [she] loved the way they danced it." Mia said that they were "dynamic" and "one of the top couples for sure."
Not Quite a Killer Tango
For their second routine, Kherington and Twitch get the Tango, choreographed by Jean-Marc. Modeled after the tango performed by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in the movie, "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" the dance was supposed to be aggressive, yet sexy. Dancing to "Assassin's Tango” from the Mr. and Mrs. Smith soundtrack, their dance was neither aggressive nor sexy. It was too loose, lacking the sharp lines and "snap" that a tango required. Nigel said that Twitch's performance "wasn't honest" and that he "wasn't comfortable." He said that Kherington "had no persona" and "murdered the dance routine." Mary said that she loved the beginning and that the "end was phenomenal [but] the in-between didn't really happen." She also noted that Kherington wasn't in character for the dance. Mia said that there was "nothing there" and that they lacked that something "underneath to support the [dance] steps."
Smashing Dance Style Debut
Katee and Joshua closed out the evening with a Bollywood number. Yes, Bollywood made its debut on the show with a number choreographed by Nakul. Dancing to "Dhooma Tana," the routine was like a fun hodgepodge of hip-hop, yoga, Russian dance and ample amounts of camp. Joshua and Katee danced it with great energy and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Nigel went on a bit about how happy he was to have new dance styles on the show before he said that they did a "brilliant job." Mary said that they were "flawless" and that "[they] were stars tonight." Mia loved it and thought it was "beautiful" and a "great piece."
