Get Yo’ Man

Twitch and Katee got a Broadway routine from Tyce for their second dance. It was about a woman out to get a man, and allowed Tyce to incorporate some of Twitch’s and Katee’s own moves into the dance, such as Katee’s silly dance where she puts her hands behind her head and then flaps her arm like a chicken. Set to “Sweet Georgia Brown” from Bumbling Brown Sugar, their routine was fun and engaging. Nigel “loved the routine.” He noted that Twitch has risen “to every challenge” given to him, while Katee has yet to perform a “routine that [Nigel] hasn’t enjoyed.” Mary said they looked like they “came off Broadway” and that it was “terrific.” Toni noted that Twitch danced the routine better than a Broadway vet because he “dances from the outside in.” She said Katee was a “beautiful dancer” but that she had a “personality problem” in the routine in that her character required her to be “deeper [and] rougher.” Overall, however, they performed it “wonderfully.”

Fox Trot Stumble

Mark and Comfort got a Foxtrot from Jean-Marc for their second routine. Set to “Lady Luck” from the Brian Setzer Orchestra, their footwork was a bit off, although there were some nice spins and lifts. Overall, it wasn’t a knockout performance. Nigel said that “lady luck walked out [on them]” for this dance. They “lost [their] chemistry” and he found the performance “slightly amateurish.” Mary thought that “nothing was melding together” and that the performance was not “the funnest thing to see.” Toni noted how hard the routine and ballroom dances in general were, but that they didn’t quite pull it off. She said it “looked like a recital.”

Strong Disco

Dorianna choreographed a Disco routine for Joshua’s and Chelsie’s second performance. Set to “Everlasting Love” by Gloria Estefan, their routine had some amazing, eye-popping lifts and spins. Nigel thought it was “absolutely fantastic” and noted that Joshua’s strength allowed Dorianna to put in all those amazing lifts and spins. He said they “carried it off really, really well.” Mary said that they were “dancing bodies at full tilt” and she enjoyed it. Toni thought that Joshua “pulled together the spirit of disco” while Chelsie “[has] the lines” for it.

Inspiring Solos

This week, before they performed their solos, each dancer, in a pre-taped piece, explained what inspired them to dance. Some were inspired by movies or musicals like Will (“Dirty Dancing”) and Mark (“Phantom of the Opera”). Others were placed into dance classes because they were always dancing as young children like Katee, Joshua and Comfort. Others took dance classes as a way to overcome shyness like Chelsie. Finally, others didn’t really speak about their inspiration, but more about their training like Courtney and Twitch. Once again, none of their solos really stood out, and it really won’t boil down to them in the final tally of things.
