'So You Think You Can Dance' Recap - Season 4, Performance Show 9

The Top 4 Perform on 'So You Think You Can Dance'

From Katie Lee

Aug 7 2008

Everybody Dance!

The finale performance show required the final four dancers to dance with each other – in all the possible combinations, as well as in a group routine and an individual solo. That was as exhausting as it sounded.

Last Guest Judge of the Season

This week’s guest judge was Mandy Moore, who was recently nominated for an Emmy in choreography.

Crazy Girlfriend Hip-Hopping

Courtney and Twitch get a Hip-Hop routine from Napoleon/Tabitha. Set to “Church” by T-Pain, it was a dance casting Courtney as a “crazy girlfriend” who wanted to prevent her boyfriend from going out. It was a fun routine and as Cat said, “you can’t help but smile at that.” Mandy thought it was “awesome [and] so good.” It was a good way to “start [things] out.” Mary said it was “fabulous” and gave one of her patented shrieks. Nigel “loved it as an opening number” and it was “just about perfect.”

Courtney’s Cat Chat

Before her solo, Courtney sat down with Cat and had a chat. She talked about the so-called crush Gev had on her (“he never, ever flirts”) and her favorite routine was the Jazz number from Sonya. She summed up her experience on the show as her being “proud and positive, no matter what.” After her solo, the judges offered her words of advice and/or comments. Mandy told her to keep training. Mary said Courtney had a personality that just “lights up the stage.” Nigel found her to be “inspirational” and a “bright spirit.”

Her Boo

For their final dance together, Joshua and Katee get a Contemporary routine from Wade Robson. Katee said she was so happy that Joshua was in the final four with her and that this was a good way for them to end their journey. She ended by saying, “Joshua’s my boo.” Dancing to “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” by John Mayer, their routine was passionate and had their customary strong chemistry. Mandy thought that it was “exactly what lyrical should be” and it was “so beautiful [and] honest.” She did note that technically, they needed to work on their legs and feet more. Mary said they were “wonderful dancers” and she was glad that for once they got a couple that “made it through the [competition] until the end.” Nigel said that Joshua’s “uncontrolled control” is the mark of a “brilliant dancer” and that they were “two of the best dancers we’ve ever had on the show.”
