'So You Think You Can Dance' Recap - Season 4, Performance Show 9

From Katie Lee, for About.com

Under My Umbrella

Dancing together for the first time, Courtney and Katee got a Broadway routine from Tyce. Set to “The Trolley Song” by Rufus Wainwright, the dance required them to dance with parasols/umbrellas and was a cute number. Mandy said they had “nice chemistry” and that they managed to convey a “cute little story.” Mary called their performance “effortless.” Nigel said it was a “happy routine” but he noted that Courtney should “finish [the] moves” more like Katee does. As for Katee, he said that she has that little extra something that makes him go “wow!”

Twitch’s Cat Chat

In his chat with Cat, Twitch disclosed that the story behind his nickname has to do with the fact that he tended to fidget a lot as a child, or as he put it, “twitch, twitch, twitch.” He said that he would be in the navy if not for the show since he had decided to join up, wanting stability but not the “average” 9 to 5 job. He also talked about partner, Kherington, and how her ouster caught him off guard. His favorite routine was the Viennese Waltz that Jean-Marc dedicated to his handicapped daughter and he was putting his all into the competition as a way of giving back to dance what it had given him over the years. Mandy told him that she saw something special in him from the first show and called him “the little engine that could” given how often he had tried to get on the show. Mary, who has always had a soft spot for him, just said she loves all his dances. Nigel called him a “good entertainer” which he thought was more important that being a technically proficient dancer. He also noted that Twitch has left his mark on the competition.

Russian Dance-Off!

Twitch and Joshua “disclosed” that they had a bit of a rivalry going and that they were going to settle it with their routine – a Russian dance from Youri. Set to “Trepak” from Tchiavosky, it had tricks galore and looked physically taxing. But they pulled it off and received a standing ovation from the judges. They even did another mini-dance off when Twitch teased Josh about being short, causing Josh to say he can jump higher. Thus ensued Twitch and Josh leaping around the stage and ending with Josh doing a back flip that left Twitch shaking his head. Mandy said it was “really, really well done” and “insane.” Mary called it “one of the most fabulous numbers” on the show. Nigel said that no matter what happens in subsequent shows, they would always remember this routine.

Katee’s Cat Chat

Katee once again revisited her “infamous” audition where she was almost cut at the last moment because she said she didn’t want to go through the audition process again if she didn’t make it. She explained that she didn’t mean it as quitting like the judges perceived but just that she was tired and her emotions were running high. She talked about being a goofball off stage as a way to relieve stress so that she could enjoy the experience of being on the show. Her favorite routine was her very first dance – the hip-hop routine set to “No Air.” Mandy told her to keep dancing and training and to continue to work on her artistry. Mary called her a beautiful, athletic dancer. Nigel loves how she performs what the choreographers give her and called her dancing “very beautiful.”
