Fox's top-rated summer dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance features resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, as well as rotating guests judges who are usually highly regarded choreographers and dancers. Before becoming the top judge on So You Think You Can Dance, former British dancer, Nigel Lythgoe, hosted Pop Idol and judged Popstars--two UK reality TV shows.
Lythgoe has judged SYTYCD since 2005.
Professional dancer and dance instructor Mary Murphy founded the Champion Ballroom Academy in San Diego, CA and has taught dance to numerous movie stars including Dennis Quaid, Mary Steenburgen and Donnie Wahlberg.
Each season features several guest judges, including So You Think You Can Dance choreographers and other dance celebrities. Season Eight's guest judges are:

- Krumping King, Lil C
- Emmy-winning SYTYCD choreographer Tyce Diorio
- Ballroom dance champion and SYTYCD choreographer Toni Redpath
- Ballroom and Latin choreographer Jason Gilkison
