Scrambled survivors

If you missed episode three of Survivor, I am sorry to inform you that the episode is not an easy one to recap. If we tossed all the Survivors in a human-sized blender and spilled them out into random new tribes, that would be the equivalent of what happened on the episode. With so many twists and surprises, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “What just happened here?”

Mixing it up

In a quick succession of events, the racially divided tribes are a thing of the past. Survivors line up in groups of men and women, grab a tile, and Jeff tells them to look at the tiles. Those who drew “X’s” are now team leaders. One by one, they are allowed to choose other castaways of the same sex with one rule… they can’t be former tribe members. When they’ve finished, each of the four groups grabs an egg. They squeeze it until it explodes in a splash of red or blue paint. The blue girls merge with the blue guys. The same is true for the red. The new Aitu and Rara tribes are born.

What does this mean?

In an instant, everything changes. Alliances are severed as former allies are divided. Everyone seems shocked. The reactions are both positive and negative. For castaways like Nate, the change is a great one. “It’s like they took us out of the ghetto and into Bel Air,” he commented with a smile plastered across his face.

One-sided love

We were all doubtful that Candace shared the same love for Billy that he had professed at tribal counsel. Apparently, his love-at-first sight moment was one that Candace didn’t experience. She actually laughed at the notion.

Running on empty

It’s time for the challenge. The tribes are lined up to run in knee deep water, each survivor carrying a 15 pound weight. The whole gist of the challenge is that they are trying to catch up with the other tribe. Once they do, they have to tackle an opponent, forcing them to fall into the water. Any member of a team can opt to drop out of the challenge, but if he or she does, that member has to give another team mate his or her weight. Aitu’s women immediately hand over their weight to the guys, a bold strategy move. As the other team closes in on them, we see that both Jonathan and Caoboi are totally exhausted. Yul finally declares that they can’t outrun the other team. They decide to battle it out. Caoiboi is immediately taken down, too weak to fend off an opponent.

Another twist

The winning team gets to send a losing tribe member to Exile Island. Candace is unanimously chosen.

Seafood dinner

I’m all about eating some shrimp or fish. I even enjoy crabs. But octopus? I’m not so sure. Still, viewers couldn’t help but be impressed by the way Nate slayed an octopus for dinner.

Fickle Flicka

As the tribe plots who to vote out of tribal counsel, Flicka refuses to formulate any type of strategy. She seems way more concerned about being nice than winning the game. She goes so far as to say she just wants to go as long as she can without feeling fake.

Bye bye, Becky?

In the end, all the scheming that many of the tribe underwent when plotting against Becky wasn’t enough to save Cecilia from being voted out. Yul still has an immunity necklace nobody knows about. Who knows when it could save him from being voted off?
