Survivor: Cook Islands Reunion Show Recap

The survivors give updates on their lives.

From Amber Foreman, for About.com

After announcing that Yul was the winner of Survivor: Cook Islands, Jeff admitted that for the first time, he felt bad somebody didn’t win. Ozzy looked incredibly sad, and we bet half the American female population would be ready and willing to comfort him!

Some of the highlights of the reunion show included Jeff asking tough questions we all wanted to know… like Yul’s reaction to the mutiny. Yul admitted that his first thought was, “We’re screwed.”

We did find out that Adam kept his word to Yul about giving him a jury vote if Yul kept Parvati and him around another day… but didn’t Adam realize that he had asked for this before Yul voted off Candice? He didn’t vote Jonathan out until later…

Jeff asked Becky and Yul if they had ever crossed the line past friendship or had even considered it. They answered with a boring and predictable “no.”

When asked about being voted as one of America’s sexiest men, Yul looked really embarrassed. He said, “At first, I thought it was a practical joke.” He went on to comment that his mom would be proud.

An emotional part of the show was when Ozzy had a chance to talk. He talked about growing up and how he swam every day and had fallen in love with spear fishing. When Jeff asked him about his best experience on Survivor, he said, “The whole damn thing.” He even admitted that he fell into a deep depression after coming back from Cook Islands, feeling a bit stifled by the “concrete jungle” of life in modern times. Jeff went on to ask him if his biological father would be watching the show. (We all heard Ozzy talk about how his biological father was not really involved in Ozzy’s life.) Ozzy said, “I don’t know, but my father is here.” He pointed toward his stepfather in the audience and said that he was his father because he was the one who raised him.

The mood was lightened as we were treated to clips from Jonathan at his most annoying. We couldn’t help but smile. When Jonathan asked him if he was a villain, he said, “There is no villain in a game. Is there a villain in monopoly?”

Clips were shown of Caiboi practicing his alternative medicine on Brad and telling his off-color Asian jokes. “I’m either hated, or I’m loved,” he commented. I have to go with the first option.

Jeff finally shifted to the topic viewers had been waiting for. Jeff asked them if their little “romance” involved real feelings or if it was strategizing. Any hopes Candice had of a future with Adam were squelched when Adam said, “Candice is a great girl. It was great and real. We have separate lives…We’re more like friends now.” Ouch!

Nate and Parvati were asked about the possibility of their having developed feelings for each other. Nate admitted “yes” while Parvati pretty much side-stepped the question. (Maybe she and Adam will hook up.)

JP announced that the Janice Dickenson modeling agency had booked him. Cristina told us her cop coworkers enjoyed watching the show.

Jeff turned his attention toward Billy and said, “Billy, Candice is now available.” Billy tried to explain how what he had said about his love at first sight experience with Candice was said in the heat of the moment because of the situation. (Nice, try, Billy. We’re not buying it.)

The show ended with the announcement of the viewer votes. The home audience had an opportunity to vote for the cleverest player in the game. The prize was a 2008 Mercury Mariner. Jeff announced that the two highest votes were Ozzy and Yul with less than a 1% difference between the two.

The new Survivor is right around the corner, and the Fiji series seems to have a lot of new twists in store. First, we find out that one tribe will be living the life of luxury while the other has relatively nothing. There will be 19 survivors ranging from Harvard to formerly homeless. Exile Island will be full of snakes and not one, but two immunity idols. It sounds like a season Survivor fans won’t want to miss!
