Survivor: Gabon Recap - - Episode Four

Episode air date: October 16, 2008.

From Angela Williams

The new Fan tribe sits around mourning the loss of Jackie. Ace is trying to figure out how to pull of a coup de grace with Sugar, who just returns from Exile. Crystal thinks that Sugar has the idol and Crystal feels Sugar needs to go. The next day, Matty is walking and calls everyone to quietly follow him. He has spotted an elephant in the woods pretty close to their camp. GC worries that he could get close to their camp at night and they wouldn’t even see him. The elephant knocks down some trees and picks up things, throwing them around. Ace and Matty decide to take the kayak over to the side of the lake where the elephant is. The other, smarter, players watch from their side of the lake. Even the camera crew is giving off long-lens shots. The elephant spots the two in the lake, and when he rears up, they realize they need to turn around.

Over at Kota it’s early morning and they are out using their new fishing gear. Fish for breakfast. Fish for lunch. Fish for…well, you get the picture. Dan, Susie and Randy are the new members of Kota, and they love it. They are eating well, and were well received. Even so, Randy knows the newcomers would most likely be the first voted out.

The Challenge

Kota is surprised to see that Jackie was voted out. The tribes are even again with Sugar back. For the challenge, they will toss fruit through holes to another member of their team, who will catch it on the other end. In the middle, a member of the opposing team has a bat trying to knock the fruit down. Bob is still wearing his off-white Bill Nuy the Science Guy suit, only now it’s brown. He’s a bit too weak at this point to work the stick. Randy and Susie are catching for Kota, and they are doing well. Well, Randy is. When time is up, Jeff weighs the fruit, and Kota wins by two pounds. They choose to send Sugar back to Exile. She just laughs as she heads out to the “Sugar Shack”. Dan’s reasoning is if she has the idol, she will have to play it before the merge and they can get it back into play. The winners get an herb garden they can keep replenishing. Also, salt and oil. They can also keep the fruit they caught.

Dan says that when the merge comes, they need to all stick together because they work well together. Marcus feels Dan is a bit too eager to express his devotion to the new Kota tribe. Susie is so quiet that Marcus wonders if she is on board with them yet. Randy takes a swim while everyone eats. Sugar is over at Exile enjoying fresh fruit and comfort.

Over at Fang, they are rationing out rice. Crystal tells GC to eat his rice, and he tells her no one needs to tell him what to do. He threatens that if she keeps running her mouth she won’t be there too long. Ace is happy that there is arguing among his tribe members. Crystal tells GC that she was joking about the rice, but he just says he needs to figure some things out.

Immunity Challenge

The Fang tribe is coming unglued. They are hungry. They are arguing. They are not making a good impression on their new members. They need to leave for the challenge, and GC, who has taken the boat out, is nowhere in site. They say they may have to leave without him. Ace is loving the dissention. Crystal is fed up with GC’s tantrums and her team using energy to yell after him. He comes back with an attitude. He needs to go.

Sugar returns in her leopard print dress and leg warmers. For the challenge, one member of each tribe will release a ball down a hill toward a goal. A member of the opposing team will be blindfolded, trying to block the ball with verbal direction for their team. Ace is upset that Sugar is not giving good direction. On the next ball, Ace goes down and says he took a shield in the face. Jeff keeps the game going. For the last ball, Sugar barely talks and Kota sails to victory. Again.

Back at camp, Fang members are just trying to figure out who to send home. GC tells Matty he’s ready to leave the game and get back to his life. Matty runs with it. Crystal is tired of the mind games. She says she refuses to beg him to stay and will vote him off with no problem. Ace and Sugar are happy the tribe is falling apart. The other members sit in the hut and discuss Sugar. They feel that this will be the only time to blindside her and put the idol back in play. No one wants GC to stay, but they need that idol back, and are pretty sure she has it.

Tribal Council

Jeff talks about the wear and tear of being in the jungle for 15 days. Ace tells him that clothes are getting looser and GC says the game does take a toll. GC says he had been thinking about what is more important to him. Sugar admits GC has been feeling homesick. GC says he hasn’t had the easiest life, but he’s gotten his suffering out of his system and he’s ready to go. Sugar cries, saying they all miss home. Matty says that quitting is not an option in his book. Sugar admits she could be the one to leave since she doesn’t really know anyone. They vote, and after Jeff pulls the votes, the fifth person to leave the game is GC. Not too sure what happened to that whole blindside thing, but Ace is smiling.
