Not Like the Movie

The six remaining teams are instructed to fly to Madagascar, and we're pretty sure it won't be anything like the animated feature film.

The Dreaded Phrase

We really want to root for beauty queens, Dustin/Kandice, but when they open this leg of the race by using the well-worn phrase of reality show villains everywhere, they're making it really hard for us. Yes, Dustin/Kandice uttered the dreaded, 'we're not here to make friends' phrase, which is usually used by reality show contestants to explain their less-than-laudable behavior. While they're not exactly the villains of this show, some of their behavior has been questionable.

Not Enough Protein for the Brain?

Dating couple, Rob/Kimberly, continue their 'tour of ignorance' on this leg with Kimberly asking Rob how the locals can stand the exhaust fumes of the city. In response, Rob explains that the locals die young because their brains don't get enough protein. We're not sure what that has to do with pollution, or how it correlates to early death, but we are wondering how much protein Rob gets for his brain on a regular basis if that's his thought process.

Intersection!

In yet another surprise twist to the race, racers are presented with something called an Intersection at their first clue. Essentially, they are forced to pair up with another team until further instructions. The two teams, forced into an alliance, must complete all tasks together in order to continue. Rob/Kimberly and models, Tyler/James pair up. Dustin/Kandice have to wait until the 'Six Pack' alliance arrive and end up pairing up with brothers, Erwin/Godwin, while friends, Lyn/Karlyn pair up with married couple, David/Mary.

It Tastes Like What?

Now allied together, Tyler/James and Rob/Kimberly, decide to take the final Fast Forward of the race, which requires each of them to consume an entire plate of a local delicacy, cow lips. This proves to be a daunting task, as the cow lips are described as tasting 'like a little girl's pantyhose.' All four of the racers struggle with it, taking them a long time to complete it, making this fast forward. . .not so fast.

Long Sleep or Short Letter

The Detour requires teams to put sheets on 8 foam mattresses, and then deliver them to an address, or to make paper. All the teams choose the mattress task, and the newly forged alliance between Erwin/Godwin and Dustin/Kandice, prove to be highly effective as they complete the task quickly, and with relative ease.

Short-Lived

After completing the Detour, teams are told that the Intersection is over and it's once again, 'every team for itself.'

Stamp Me!

The Roadblock consists of finding four specific rubber stamps (plane, car, boat, train) hidden among vendors in a busy street in Madagascar.

Taxis Without Gas

It might not be a trend, but it was more than a coincidence that quite a few teams run into problems with their taxis when they run out of gas and have to stop, thereby delaying the teams, to fill up. Erwin/Godwin, in particular, have the misfortune of running into this problem twice.

The Team to Beat?

Dustin/Kandice finish first for the second leg in a row, winning themselves a trip to Hawaii.

Déjà Vu

Teams finish this leg of the race in the exact same order in which they had finished the last leg of the race. Might this be a predictor for how the race will turn out?

Their Luck Finally Ran Out

David/Mary, who were marked for elimination on this leg of the race, needed more than luck to survive. Sadly, they didn't get that added help, as they finished fifth. However, they had to finish first, and for failing to do so, they incurred a 30 minute penalty, allowing Lyn/Karlyn to check in before them. As a result, David/Mary were eliminated from the race. Mary summed up her experience on the race as 'opening up a new book' for her, which she's hoping to share with her kids.
