The Amazing Race: All-Stars Recap - - Rob and Amber Eliminated

What happened on the fourth episode of The Amazing Race: All-Stars?

From Katie Lee, for About.com

Mar 12 2007

Still in Chile

Teams are still in Chile (for now at least) and instructed to locate a shipwreck in Punta Arenas to get their next clue.

Google Has Its Limitations

Rob/Amber try to get a leg up on the competition by using the Internet again. Only this time, they are not quite as successful as their search for more information on the shipwreck only turned up information about paintings of the shipwreck.

Look Elsewhere Eric!

Once again, Eric makes reference to Danielle's. . .endowments by saying that she's just like a guy, 'with better boobs.' After last week's 'use your boobs!' comment, we think Eric might be a little too. . .focused on that aspect of Danielle's 'personality.' Try looking up, Eric.

Doing More, and Letting the World Know

Mirna tells us that she does more than any other racer on the show because she has to compensate for Charla's 'shortcomings.' From what we can see so far, much of her 'compensating' involve having emotional meltdowns that seem to just cost them more time. Frankly, we think Charla 'compensates' for her own 'shortcomings' by dealing with Mirna so calmly the majority of the time. But that's what 'teamwork' is, Mirna.

Magellan's Detour

The Detour consisted of tasks 'inspired' by renowned explorer, Ferdinand Magellan (the first person to sail around the world). Teams choose either to Navigate (which involves using a map and compass to locate a Nautilus store) or Sign It (which involves creating a sign post with the ports used by Magellan on his historic voyage).

Spelling is Fundamental

Rob/Amber struggled with the sign task, which mandated that all the ports be spelled properly, when Rob misspelled 'Philippines.' Time after time, neither of them managed to catch the error, even after Amber remarked that 'it better not be a spelling thing.'

'What Do You Want Me to Do?'

In continuing to compensate for her team's shortcomings, Mirna's plan to catch up with the pack is to yell, repeatedly, at Charla when she tried to help with the Detour. Instead of proceeding with her part of the task, Mirna opted to yell at her cousin about every single thing that she was doing until Charla finally lost it and yelled back, 'what do you want me to do!'

Pair Up and Switch!

Unable to figure out what was wrong with their sign (*cough*spelling!*cough*), Rob/Amber agreed to pair up with Dustin/Kandice (who were also struggling with the sign task) and switched over to the navigation task. But they also make critical errors there, as Rob missed the Nautilus store by misreading the compass.

A New Country!

Teams finally departed from Chile, flying to Ushuaia, Argentina to find the Playa Larga area.

Letters from the Past

Teams made their way by boat to the southernmost point in South America where they found their Roadblock task, which involved sorting through 1000 letters to find a letter addressed to each team, written by a team that they had raced against in their original season. (For instance, Dustin/Kandice received a letter from their rivals, Lyn/Karlyn).

New Leaders

Rob/Amber's 3 leg winning streak is broken when Ozwald/Danny come in first at the pit stop. 'Ozzie and Danny' win a trip for two to Royal Beach in Maui, complete with a submarine tour.

Bitter Rivalry

Rob/Amber and Charla/Mirna developed a bitter rivalry this leg of the race, with cab stealing, lying about clues and general unpleasantness between the two teams. As fate would have it, Rob/Amber and Charla/Mirna are the last two teams at the Roadblock tasks. But. . .

At Least They Won Some Nice Consolation Prizes

Mirna managed to find her letter first and she and Charla reached the pit stop just ahead of Rob/Amber, who are eliminated from the race. But winning three legs in a row allowed them to collect some lovely parting gifts. So much for being the 'team to beat.'
