Intersect, and Then Fast Forward
The next leg of the race gave us a 1-2 punch in terms of 'twists' in the race. Coming back from Auschwitz-Birkenbau, teams found that an Intersection as well as a Fast Forward awaiting them.
Just Count 'Em
Joyce/Uchenna and Danny/Ozzie teamed up for the Intersection and decided to go after the Fast Forward, which required them to count the steps of two church towers. It was a fairly easy task and both teams are allowed to proceed directly to the pit stop.
Sucks to Be Third
Especially if you need the fourth place team to work with you as part of the Intersection, as Dustin/Kandice found out. Since the charter buses to Auschwitz-Birkenbau run at 4 hour intervals and the last 3 teams (Charla/Mirna, Joe/Bill and Eric/Danielle) were on the bus fours hours behind them, Dustin/Kandice had to wait for hours before they could do anything.
2 Teams, 1 Prize
Because they were 'intersected,' Joyce/Uchenna and Danny/Ozzie both finished first. However, Phil only had one prize to give - a trip to St. Lucia. Danny/Ozzie graciously gave the prize to Joyce/Uchenna.
Now We Got a Race!
The last 3 teams finally returned from Auschwitz-Birkenbau and it's back to the chaotic scramble of The Amazing Race as the final four teams paired up and went in search of their next clue.
Yelling For Compassion
Mirna was particularly irritating this leg of the race as she constantly yelled - at Charla, random locals, and taxi drivers. We were actually cheering on the taxi driver who finally got fed up and threatened to drive away, leaving them stranded on some dark road. We particularly loved how she SCREAMED at the man to have some compassion for a fellow human. Shut it, Mirna.
Sausages or Bagels?
The Detour required teams to either make kielbasa sausages and then eat about two feet of it, or to make bagels and then deliver them to a restaurant. Dustin/Kandice and Charla/Mirna decided to go with the kielbasa task, while Joe/Bill and Eric/Danielle decided to try the bagel task, but ended up at the kielbasa task because they got lost
Binge and Purge
Almost everyone, with the exception of Joe/Bill, who seemed to eat the kielbasa with little to no problems, had trouble devouring the huge amount of sausage. Charla in particular had to resort to vomiting before she could even finish her share.
And. . .Separate!
After the Detour, teams were told the Intersection was over, and its every team for itself again. Teams jockey for position as they try to locate a castle.
Suit Up!
The Roadblock required a racer to don a full suit of armor and then lead a horse about a mile to the castle's entrance.
Shut. Up. Mirna!
Did we mention that Mirna was particularly irritating this leg of the race? Charla decided to do the 'knight' task, and had problems controlling her horse, since she couldn't grip the horse as close to his bit as others. The horse knocked Charla down A LOT, and Mirna kept yelling at her to 'go straight!' Frankly, we don't know how Charla didn't just start taking off some of her armor and chucking it at Mirna's head. We wouldn't have blamed her.
Marked, And Eliminated
Joe/Bill checked in fifth but because they were marked for elimination from the last leg, they incurred a 30-minute penalty, which was all that Eric/Danielle needed to check in ahead of them. As a result, Joe/Bill were eliminated from the race.
