We're Off To. . .
. . .Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. All the teams scrambled to book tickets via different methods (Internet, hotel concierge, the airline) and in the end, Charla/Mirna are on the first flight out (with a connection in Warsaw), Joyce/Uchenna are on the second flight out (with a tight connection in Frankfurt) and Danny/Ozzie, Eric/Danielle and Dustin/Kandice are on the third flight out (with a connection in Paris).
Damn Those Connections!
Joyce/Uchenna had about an hour to make their connection in Frankfurt and continuing this race's 'theme' of having connecting flights create massive problems, they don't make it - stranding them in Frankfurt temporarily.
More Than One Way There
Teams are told to go to the Batu caves in Kuala Lumpur via train and bus, and there is some scrambling but most teams eventually find their way. The hardest part of finding that clue was scaling the massive flight of steps to get to the clue box.
Return of the Yield
The Yield reared its head for the first time this race (and as Phil indicated, there will be one more Yield before the race is over) and Dustin/Kandice used it on Eric/Danielle, stating that 'consistently' Eric/Danielle have run a strong race. Maybe Dustin/Kandice are running a race we don't get to see each week because Eric/Danielle seem like the weakest team in this field of five - never having come in first, and barely escaping elimination a few times. Predictably, Eric/Danielle are not happy about being yielded and the usual name calling ('dirty, pirate hookers') ensued as they wait out the 'sands in the hourglass.'
Fabric or Cookies?
The Detour required teams to either duplicate a printed fabric or to find a cookie (among 600 boxes) that had a licorice center. Surprisingly, almost all the teams, except Dustin/Kandice, opted for the 'needle in a haystack' cookie task. Not surprisingly, only Eric/Danielle managed to complete the cookie task successfully. Danny/Ozzie spent time arguing about the task before switching to the fabric task, and Charla/Mirna had to give up and do the fabric task when they went through almost all their boxes and couldn't find the licorice center cookie.
Who Was She Insulting?
The Roadblock required a racer to ride a bicycle around a neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur and buy old newspapers to recycle. Each racer must collect enough newspapers to form a stack 'eight hand high' (basically a way to measure by counting with your hand). It is a physically grueling task that almost everyone struggled with. Danielle, performing the Roadblock, remarked that 'every roadblock for a girl, Eric does.' Oh, Danielle. You're a girl, and you just insulted yourself with that comment.
Even Stevens
Danny/Ozzie's 'tiff' (beginning with the 'cookies or fabric' argument and culminating with Danny struggling on the Roadblock because Ozzie doesn't like bicycles - although he stated for the record that he had no aversion to being thrown from a building) was resolved in an amusing way when Danny confessed that he took a lemonade break during the Roadblock, prompting Ozzie to declare that because of that, they were now 'even' and Danny could only smile in agreement. Ahhh, if all the 'tiffs' on this race could be resolved this way.
Strong Race, Strong Finish
Dustin/Kandice ran a strong leg, and come in first this leg. For their reward, they each won a retro scooter.
