When I chatted with booted reality TV contestant Akil about his experience on "The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliot," it was no surprise that the remarkably positive rapper had nothing but good to say about the artists he competed against on the show. He especially sang the praises of Jessica, the contestant he thinks should win the competition.
I really like Jessicas voice, he told me in an interview last week. All things aside, when you hear her sing in person, with no digital adjustments, no nothing, shes dope...I feel like shell (win) it, but then again, you never know. Anybody could win.
Akil isnt discouraged by his loss on the show. "I still have a lot of things to do in life...and I am going to go on to bigger greater things," he said.
"Ive got this dope album in the wings and I have a demo for sale right now," he revealed. "Its really an eclectic blend of like modern dope hip-hop mixed with like jazzy music and classical. It will hopefully make some people smile."
For now, Akil will continue teaching at an elementary school in Jersey City, New Jersey. "My students are Road to Stardom junkies," he laughed. "A lot of them thought I would bring the prize home."
