'America's Next Top Model' Recap: Season 10, Episode Three

From Angela Williams, About.com Guest

Mar 6 2008
Last week Kim volunteered to leave the competition after she discovered she didn’t like high fashion. Atalya was still eliminated, and this week, the girls have to step up their games, ‘cause New York is a whole different culture than L.A., and the competition is fierce this season.

PETTY GIRLS IN THE HOUSE

Dominique, who they feel is very masculine, but beautiful, says she is a Diva and ready to take the title. The doorbell rings, and the girls find white bags, designer no doubt, filled with Apple Bottom gear. Of course they scream and shout and try on the tight, booty-hugging jeans and accessories. I’m jealous ‘cause my booty’s not there yet, but it’s all good. One more season of Biggest Loser and I’ll have my Apple Bottom bag too

. Tomboy Lauren tries her hardest to wrap her brain around the clothes and heels, but has a hard time. At least she makes a good faith effort, unlike girls from previous seasons that just whine and break their ankles trying to walk. And she’s improving. Still awkward, but improving. Allison sits off to the side, annoyed with the girls for acting like it’s Christmas. She feels she is above everyone else because she has modeling experience and she’s been all over Asia. Fatima tries to explain Apple Bottom to Allison, and then tells Allison that since she is bigger than she is she may not fit them the same. Allison tells her to go tell it to the girl who is anorexic (which was once herself). Fatima, who has a habit of being a little too outspoken, didn’t actually mean to insult Allison, this time, and tries to explain she was just pointing out the differences between their own two bodies. Allison still takes offense to the remark and pulls out a measuring tape to check her Apple Bottom-less booty. Fatima finds out from the other girls that Allison once suffered from an eating disorder and feels bad, but not enough to be insulted. She says Allison needs to deal with her issues.

TYRA MAIL

“You never know when you’ll get that next call. A Top Model is prepared for all,” reads the message. It’s 5:a.m., and the limo takes the ladies to Wal-Mart, where come man named Brent and Molly Stern from Cover Girl are there to give them their challenge. It’s all about casting and makeup. The winner will get a Wal-Mart Cover Girl Display. They have five minutes to shop for Outlast All Day Lip Color, Tru Blend liquid foundation and Lash Last mascara. They have to make up their faces and report for judging. Lauren struggles but manages to pull off a nice, fresh look. The judge’s only comment is she could use more color in her cheeks. Marvita is annoyed that during the five minute session she was bumped to the side too much, but she didn’t hit anyone. Allison comments that she feels she did a much better job than the other girls did. The judges are impressed with Claire and Whitney. Fatima is told she matted her face too much and didn’t do anything to add to her look. Allison smiles at the criticism. Allison is told that she has on way too much makeup. Boo-ya! There’s that karma again!

Back at the house, Claire says she feels like she and Dominique take the competition more seriously because they have children to support. Dominique wants to be an inspiration to her daughter. Amis reminds them that they are all in the competition for their own reasons and all want it just as much as the next girl does. Just when I’m recovering from the last dumb thing out of Rush Limbaugh’s mouth, Allison pulls out two dolls, one White, the other Black. In front of everyone, she stuffs tissue in the seat of the Black doll’s pants, and mocks Fatima, saying, “Look at all this junk in my trunk.” She goes one step further by bending the doll over and saying, “I like to take it from the back ‘cause I’m Black.” At this point, no one cares that she is a recovering or practicing anorexic. She’s crossed a line and they let her know it. She doesn’t want to hear anyone’s complaints and leaves the room. Fatima is just flabbergasted that she would take it that far, and decides not to deal with Allison at all anymore. Thank God Allison didn’t direct that at Marvita, because I don’t think that was covered in therapy.
